I am doing a presentation on how poverty affects children's learning and I need to find statistical information on middle class children will achieve.

Any ideas where I would find this?

Any survey that has educational attainment and income lol. But which definition of poverty are you using? Grin

Your tutor should be able to give you access to a data set that is available through college.

How are you going to prove that poverty is the cause and not any of the other variables that might be present?

Sorry, my reply assumes that you are using income to define both poverty and middle class, which may not be the case...?

Anything less tangible like parental support will of course be trickier. There will be data though - presumably you are on an Ed course and this has been done loads. Not my area though!

Apols for being bugger all help Grin but at least it bumped it for you!

I could be remembering wrongly but I think you can get that sort of info from Fisher Family Trust (could be slightly wrongly spelt). If you're looking at really basic markers though school performance information will give you % on free school meals. That might be enough to get you started.

Thanks :)

We're doing a presentation on how poverty affects learning - and thought we would discuss the differences in attainment of children living in poverty, alongside their middle class peers.

I have been given the task of finding out what "middle class" children are more likely to do ie go to uni, achieve at least 5 a-c's at gcse etc, whilst another student is having to state that children growing up in poverty are more likely to....

Will check out the Fisher family trust
