Want to try real nappies but can't decide which ones!!!

I have decided to try real nappies after my friend swearing blind they're great but I'n not sure which one's to use.

I have a large 11 month old which weighs over 28lb. He's in size 18-24 month clothes, so is quite tall. With him being a boy I'm wondering if bulky nappies cause a problem for getting trousers on. My freind uses stuffable and they sound a great idea.
Any reccomendations on good ones to try.

I am new to cloth nappies and dd is only 5wks but I also have a 2.3yr old ds who is weighs around same as your ds. I have tried on the motherease onesize I have for dd on ds [just out of interest as he is now potty trained] and they actually were less bulky on him apart from with jeans which I think most cloth nappies are no good with jeans. I like the MEOS as they are easy to use and will last a while[although dont know about in your sons case].

To be honest, I find that the cloth nappy is the only thing keeping DSs jeans up!

If he's that tall/large, you may get away with XL sizes in nappies (is he walking yet, they do slim down abit then), Fuzzi Bunz are pockets and can be slim (depends how much you stuff them with) or if you want to try a two part nappy, Toddle-ease by Mother-ease should last til potty training with a Airflow wrap.

Pocket nappies are great looking and v easy to use but a two part nappy/wrap is usually abit more reliable.

You could do a trial to decide what you like best.

I started at 11 mths and haven't looked back, I use a mix of Fuzzis, Tots Bots and Onelife with Bumbles at night

If you want a stuffable, I much prefer Happy Heinys to Fuzzi Bunz - easier to use and I always seem to get leaks with Fuzzis. Happy Heinys come in great prints too!

For absorbency though, Tots Bamboozles are fantastic.

using cloth nappies may require your son to wear slightly larger clothes, it depends on how slim fitting the nappy is
I have a girl and I just wear a lot of skirts and jumper dresses on her - you don't have that option!

try using bambino mio nappies they are excellent, very easy to use and wash. As to the trouser issue yes you will find that as he grows the trousers are harder to get on, so you need to go on to the larger size sooner. I find that clothes from Next are very small and do not last as long with the nappies, watch out for trousers that have a button to undo on the waist, m and s trousers have buttons. Bambino mio have a web sight you can look at, they are very good value.

Oh dear DH eyes have started to role. I've been looking at the sites reccomended here and kittykins.co.uk as suggested by my friend and I keep saying awww how cute.
He knows what a sucker I am for cute and fluffy and I think all he sees is the bank balance going down.
Thanks for all the suggestions I'm looking forward to trying a couple out and seeing what happens.

Does your council offer a real nappy scheme for people switchiing to cloth? My sister is getting £100 of Tots bots free for her 6 month old!

Regarding clothes for washable wearers - Boden baggies are great. There are usually some listed on eBay but even new they are great - last a long time with turnups and have a good resale value.

Hennes can be good too.

Well we are in W Dunbartonshire. Might be worth investigating.

If your boy is big, you could go straight into size large nappies which should do him until potty (depending when that is). There is loads of choice, most people use bigger nappies for nights and slimmer nappies for days. If you go down the slim route you may have to change more frequently dependent upon how heavy a wetter you boy is.
Hemp is very absorbent as is bamboo, which means a nappy made from these fabrics can be slimmer than cotton, but still absorb the same amount of liquid.
I personally have a number of different types of nappy to suit whatever I want to do, so don't worry about buying 20 of the same, it's more fun not to. You should see how cute some of the printed nappies are out there, you could end up hooked.
I have a nappy review site, where loads of cloth users have written reviews for nappies they have tried. This is it here , hope it helps.
