What do you do with your children at the weekends?

DS is 4 and an only child and the only regular thing we do at the weekend is take him for his swimming lesson.

The rest of the time we do something 'fun' like go for a day out, go to the cinema, the museum, zoo etc. But we've exhausted everything by us and are running out of ideas.

What do you do at the weekends with your child/children?

We go for walks in the woods, take dc out on their bikes, go to the beach see family or sometimes just stay home, gardening or playing games.

It'll be SO much easier when it gets warmer. I think it's got to that point in the winter where there is nothing left to do. DH and I both hate to be in, and we're also pretty crowded at home (2 DCs in a 2-bed flat,no garden) so we're forever dragging them to museums etc. We probably go to a museum or gallery most weekends. There are lots with good children's activities near us. But I can't wait until it's spring and we can just potter about in the park/ on the beach.

When we're in, mine like baking or making pizza for dinner. My 5-yr old DD is just getting into Lego and we can happily spend a couple of hours lying on the carpet making stuff. I'm delighted by this as for years she's only ever wanted to play role-play games, which drive me a bit mad.

Chuck 'em out into the park with a football/scooter/bike, usually, but they are not four.

If the weather is really bad and I am feeling like being a nice mummy we bake. If the weather is nice and I feel like being a nice mummy we walk to the adventure playground or beach.

TV was invented for the times when the weather is bad and I am not in nice mummy mode.

Swimming lessons on Saturday morning, then home for lunch & naps (they are small). Dh & I will often read the papers or have a rest too.

We always walk the dog, either in the woods or on the beach. We sometimes go to a local park so Dd1 can use her scooter.Quite often we will visit family. Today we visited the city museum & did some quick shopping. The library is a Saturday trip too.

Dd1 is often happiest "helping" Dh prune or now the lawn. Or sweeping/mopping the kitchen floor!! They don't always need the excitement & planning we go in for!!

DS is 2.

Town & market shopping on Saturday morning, church on Sunday morning.

Saturday afternoon - walk or park, help me cook dinner or do housework. Sunday afternoon - go for a walk and/or play at home.

DH does something 'fun' with DS about once every 3 or 4 months.
