Keeping poorly 14 mo hydrated

My DS has a bad case of viral tonsillitis. Until today he has been drinking plenty of fluids, but his throat is now so sore he won't even drink. I've tried ice lollies on the recommendation of the doctor and milk, but he won't take it. He's sweating a lot too due to running a high temperature, although i've now managed to bring his temperature down. Any advice on pushing fluids? He doesn't like fruit juice. And when do i need to worry that he hasn't had anything to drink? Thanks.

Have you tried syringing it in?

If he has no wet nappies for 12 hours then he needs seeing, if he well let you feel inside his mouth that should stay moist if he is hydrated enough

How about ice-cream or frozen yoghurt? When dd was poorly and moderately dehydrated @ 12 mo, I tried every trick to keep her hydrated (including ice lollys etc), but she refused anything I offered, and screamed at the sight of a syringe. The GP suggested ice-cream, as its high in calories and mostly liquid, and she lived on that for a couple of days! She went back to her normal balanced diet eventually, and although I was worried that she was going to become a fussy eater, that never materialised!

The idea of ice-cream in this weather is making shiver!

Thanks for the advice!

He perked up quite a lot when he saw his big sister this evening and even managed a few giggles, as well as a few sips of water and about 2oz of milk. I'm hoping that after a good night's sleep he'll be feeling much brighter.

I'll keep an eye on his nappies and resort to a syringe/ icecream if necessary!
