When after potty training can a boy go through the night?

My DS was dry last Easter, but is still in nappies at night and they are showing no sign of being even nearly dry in the mornings - they are often so wet that his PJs and sheet are wet.

He is 3.5yrs

He does have a beaker of milk about an hour before bedtime (as his eating is pretty rubbish) but then no drink other than the odd sip of water I leave by his bedside. I always make him do a wee before going to bed.

I was just wondering about the 'when will he be dry at night' bit myself.

Ds1 has been dry in the day for 6 months now. Has been dry for his daytime nap for about 3 weeks. Has now started on the odd night waking and calling to be taken to the toilet. On nights he does this he is dry in the morning. Was considering taking him to the toilet about 10pm every night if the waking became more frequent. Currently have ds2 not yet on solids and so feeding at 10pm and was hoping no action needed to be taken with ds1 until ds2 drops the 10pm feed!

Ds was trained quite late, around 3 yrs and was dry at night virtually the same time.

spoke to some mums of 4 year old boys yesterday who pretty much all said that it was around a year after potty training that the boys dropped nappy at night.

Shan't panic just yet!

DS1 - 6.5 - still not dry at night.

DS2 - 4.5 - has been dry at night for ages, first became so after I accidentally left off his night nappy!

ds1 has been dry in the day for more than 18 months and still not dry at night (maybe about 1 in 4 nights). He's 4.2.

All of my children were dry at night more or less when they were dry during the day. Ds3 has been dry at night since he was about 2.7 (potty trained at 2.6) but I don't think there is a rule to it. He also hs a drink before bed and a wee.

You could try cutting out the night- time drink, but I don't know that this works.

I wouldn't worry about it until they go to school and even that is probably too young.

My dd has been dry in the day for two years. She's now 4y8m and is still not dry at night.

It's not something I'm worried about; it will happen when she's ready and not before. Apparently there is a hormone that kicks in which suppresses urination at night, and until that happens they are not physically able to be dry at night.

www - that's interesting - I guess that would explain it then. Thanks for this.

ds is 4.5 and he dropped his night time pull up on his own volition on the 28th December. I had been reluctant to go there as his pull up was always drenched in the morning. However it transpires that ds had been getting out of bed in the night whenever he wanted to have a wee and standing up so it didn't make him uncomfortable!! he had been doing this for some time.-so heavy nappy in the morning is not necessarily a sign that they are not ready!
He sometimes gets up in the middle of the night for a wee but has not had any accidents yet.
