Good gifts for a one year old?

Hi!
My DD is only 6 months and as I'm learning as I go, any suggestions for gifts to get a one year old? My friend's DD will be one this month and I'd like to get her something special. Any suggestions (besides clothes?)
Thanks!

Wooden blocks (cheap - ARGOS do them). A baby walker with blocks in it (more expensive)

emsyj · 29/01/2012 17:33

A wheelybug? A trike?

How much do you want to spend?

emsyj · 29/01/2012 17:34

DD's favourite baby walker is the dreadful tacky plastic VTech one but she bloody loves it - about £23 on amazon. She already had 3 baby walkers by the time she was 1 though.

Dd and ds both loved their baby and buggy at that age.

Ds also had a ball popper thing - you can get them from argos.

Mini instruments are always a good bet. Both of mine also like happyland stuff.

Stacking cups

PommePoire · 29/01/2012 17:42

Nesting and stacking pots or cubes. Brightly coloured plastic ones do triple duty in water, sand and indoors and will still be played with literally years later (ours are still going strong and DDs are 6 and 7.) Agree with other posters that a walker is a good choice for this age, especially the trolley ones with blocks in. However, speaking from personal experience, this is a popular choice, and the kind of thing that grandparents or godparents, aunts and uncles might like to give, so worth checking in case of duplication!

MrsJangles · 29/01/2012 17:42

Happy to spend £25 ish - she has a couple of baby walkers already, but I like the idea of a baby and buggy or some stacking blocks...

Agree with stacking cups dsis got them for ds3 (5) for his first birthday and he still plays with them in the bath. Or a stacking ring.

bubblebubblebubblepop · 29/01/2012 19:04

Flashing disco tub lights (or something similar). Jojomamanbebe sell them and I think amazon do too. My two loved them! Have bought as presents many times since!

MrsWifty · 29/01/2012 19:37

They're cheap as chips, but Weebles have been popular at the two first birthday parties I've been to.

tassisssss · 29/01/2012 19:39

Happyland is also nice.

Scuttlebug?

Little tikes rocker?

wigglesrock · 29/01/2012 21:14

A vote for Happyland. I have an almost one year old and she loves Happyland figures and the train sets. Also the 3 pack of cars from ELC (£10), you can also get them as emergency vehicles and planes etc. But her favourite, favourite toy is the Tomy Squeak 'n' hide eggs.

She also loves books that make noises Grin. To be honest she has had stacking cups and rings from about 6/7 months.

We have got her new bath toys - fancier ones Grin for her birthday next month.

PreHeatedOven · 29/01/2012 21:17

Tomy Squeaky Eggs! Can't believe no one mentioned these yet.
About £6/£7 max. They are just brilliant- a
shape sorting, colour matching eggs in a box. Both my DS' love them

PrisonerOfWaugh · 29/01/2012 21:21

Came on to recommend the Tomy Eggs too - they're what I buy for all 1st birthdays now!

chocoroo · 29/01/2012 21:26

The egg things are fab, although tend to disappear under the sofa in our house along with the stacking cups.

DD is almost one and loves Happyland stuff she had for Christmas. We're getting her a trike for her birthday but other things we've asked for include a Trunki for journey's to GP's, some new bath towels as the baby ones are getting too small and some chunky crayons as she loves them at nursery.

Timeoutofmind · 29/01/2012 21:31

My 1yo DD also likes the Tomy eggs, and I got her a musical instrument set from ELC for her 1st bday that she loves.

MrsDobalina · 29/01/2012 23:03

I think I must have the only 1 year old that doesn't like stacking cups. She is obsessed with Duplo, trains and cars but I suspect that's partly because DS is too. We got her Duplo for her birthday - it's really good value, you can buy little starter sets and will be played with for years. We bought a cheap ukelele for DS's first birthday cos we thought it was funny (yes I know, we are not very funny!) but it's still mauled on a daily basis. Wooden birthday cutting cakes are also good and will give good mileage, amazon does loads.

Somersaults · 29/01/2012 23:11

Duplo!! Then you can add to it for other presents in the future. It'll get used for years too.
