Was not sure where to post this but when did people get their period after baby if ebf?, also did you find them more painful than they used to be or not?, how long did you wait before going back to using tampons? cheers as am wondering what to expect as they used to be really painful even though I was on the pill which I am not anymore.

14 months. Not painful but they never were, they are longer though - 9 days up from 7.

didireallysaythat · 27/01/2012 17:04

I got mine about 2 months after I stopped bf. They didn't hurt which was a real change (used to be doubled up, vomiting, the whole thing which is why I went on the pill).

But they have been a lot heavier, I mean crazier heavy. I've just gone back on the pill to reduce them (couldn't get organised to get two-three appointments to get a coil).

I got mine last month, so it took 7 months. Didn't hurt but was very, very heavy.

Mine are now so heavy - does it just stay like this til the menopause?

kickingking · 27/01/2012 21:23

Seven months, while still breastfeeding. Would have ovulated soon after baby started solids - 'how did your body know?!' marvelled DH Grin

Sorry to say this, but they were very painful at first, then got better, then became very heavy and nasty and I ended up on mefanamic acid to treat it.

Used tampons straight away, but had an elcs.

Eight months dd1, fourteen months Ds, still waiting dd2 (6 months). Were completely amazing after-used to be on painkillers for two days, bed sometimes. Now light ish and no pain.

Grin at kicking. They're magic our bodies, aren't they?

Nectarina I remember you from sleeping thread, I think you gave me some advice about settling dd. Are you getting any sleep yet? I'm not so much, but hanging on in there.

RealLifeIsForWimps · 28/01/2012 02:51

7 months (1 month after I stopped bf). Very light, next two very heavy, then settled down to normal, although my cycle became slightly longer (32 days whereas before had always been 28/29 days)

RealLifeIsForWimps · 28/01/2012 02:52

Sorry- just read the next bit of your OP. I used tampons from my first period. I dont think there's a reason not to so long as you're cleared at the 6 wk check up

Molehillmountain · 28/01/2012 08:29

Oh and very weirdly, haven't used tampons since dd1 born. Only when swimming. Can't say why, just don't want to.

candr · 28/01/2012 18:24

Thanks all, is good to have an idea what to expect, am dreading it as have loved not having them.

11 months. Not painful or heavy. Back to mooncup straight away no probs.

WoollyHead · 28/01/2012 19:44

A year, 16 months & 2 years. No real difference to before DC. I don't use tampons.

juneau · 28/01/2012 19:47

After my first baby (EBF) I didn't get my period for 18 months. The first one was horrendous - very heavy and very painful. After that they settled back into their normal routine.

After my second baby (also EBF), my period returned after 8 months. First period was painless and my normal 5 days in length.

Used my mooncup immediately both times. No problems at all.

lovechoc · 28/01/2012 20:22

Was heavy before having DC, and now they are just as heavy if not even heavier but I've been on Implanon now for just over 2 weeks so that may have something to do with it..hoping it settles down. Length of periods around 5 days before and after pregnancies.

nectarina · 29/01/2012 09:27

Attheendoftheday - hello and yes LOTS ore sleep thanks to a solution given by a friend that teaches baby to self settle without leaving them to cry. I'm thinking of putting details on the sleep board in case its of use to anyone else.

attheendoftheday · 29/01/2012 17:15

Yes please, that would be really good! I am jealous of your lots of sleep! I've been forging on with the no cry sleep solution techniques but without a huge improvement tbh.
