Baby sniffles

My 5week old seems to have caught my cold, and is so snuffly, especially while trying to sleep. I propped her moses basket up last night, and put a bowl of hot water/vicks in our room to try and help. She dozed on and off all night, not having a proper sleep. Is it a 'this will pass' thing, and she'll be OK in a few days or is there anything else I can do to ease it?

She is currently napping in her bouncer as it means she's more upright, and while still snotty sounding, it's nowhere near as bad as when lying in her basket. Is it safe for her to sleep in the chair overnight (sleeps max 3 hours at a time)?

Any hints/tips would be great. Fwiw, her nose doesnt seem 'blocked' just snotty sounding, so not sure if a Nasal Aspirator would help.

DS has had several colds since he was born in September and largely it's just a case of riding it out. We did the steam/vicks/propped up thing but wouldn't have let him sleep in his chair.

In the beginning the only place DS would sleep other than on my or DP was his bouncer. If he's happy and safe in it and it gives you a break then that's fine. Worrying about a DC when they're ill is enough, without worrying about every other little thing.

My baby's had a loud nose from the start. I've recently started using a Baby Nose Clear. I also have a friend who recommends tixilix saline drops.

My twin girls sleep in the bouncer or car seats at night (5 weeks tom) I have these inserts thy go in the car seats that are comfy.
They are sicky and snotty too, and this really helps! I also asked HV and doctor and try said to do what works as long as they are safe.

I would say ride it out, it's a shame 5 weeks is too little for Calpol. When dd was little I read somewhere that bf (if you're doing that) can help relieve pain, so I bf dd a lot when she was ill.

If she gets snotty you can use saline drops to loosen the mucus and a nasal aspirator to remove it. Not all nasal aspirators are equal, I started off with one that had a balloon to squeeze, it was totally useless. This one was really good though.
