How to cook properly - good, nourishing food from scratch.

How the world really is. My son's teachers are there to fill his mind with nonsense and trivia and I will make sure he understands the world he is growing in to.

Very true, knowledge about the world and politics

Also how important friends are in your life

Not sure about the friends thing. They may or may not find good friends, if they do then there's no need to teach them how important they are. Most of my friends are work and little more.

I want to teach dd the importance of being kind, and that life shrinks or expands in proportion to your courage.

I wish I had taught that I can do sport if I try and that I'm prettier when I'm happy (not ugly because I'm fat).

I think you can take friends for granted which is a shame. I met someone at 17 dropped all my friends (I am still with him 15 years later) although I made new friends, good friends dont come around all of the time.

Love the wise words attheendoftheday

That, at the end of the day, your mum is there for you. No matter what. She may shout and rant a bit but give her time and space and she'll be there for you when others walk away.

Hopefully how to be financially independant and how to cook.

I wish I knew DIY, but am too scared of power tools and 4'8" which makes ladders almost useless!

The lesson I've learned that I'm passing on is summed up as 'a cat may look at a king' i.e Beware of people that try to make you feel inferior. No-one can take your self-respect, you have to give it to them.

The thing I'm going to try to do for him that I wish someone had done for me is help him work out what career path will make the most of his personality and aptitudes. My family were ambitious for the children but, because their own experience was limited, they talked in general terms of being 'a doctor' or 'a lawyer'. The happiest people I know do jobs they love and excel at. I wish I was one of them!

How to balance the books, and how to balance your responsibilities. Not doing either of those can bring so much misery.

That tomorrow is another day, you can start afresh again the next day after a crappy day, you don't have to keep all the baggage ongoing.

And don't sweat the small stuff.

Be brave and have a go.
