Another Tots Bots question

My sister is getting a free pack from Tots Bots courtesy of the council's nappy scheme.

She can only have the original style of nappy but can choose colour and aplix/nippa.

Any recommendations? I had a few aplix for DS and found them easy to use. Are there any differences?

i found aplix easier than dealing with a wriggly baby and a nippa but each to their own really!

hana · 18/01/2006 22:35

you can get a tighter fix with a nappy nippa, esp if the nappies are 'big' and the baby hasn't grown into it yet\
aplix is better is other people will be chaning the baby as well - the nippas take a bit of getting used to and doing up
lucky sister to get a free back, they are great nappies

mcmudda · 18/01/2006 22:37

I've got nippas and I find they've got more adjustability thatn aplix because you can pull them 3 ways rather than just 2.

Some of the coloured Totsbots used to fade to grey. My totsbots boosters are coloured and the lilac and green faded to dirty white. But I have a feeling they're changed the colour -fastness now because I've not heard anyone else mentioning it. Pink, orange, yellow and turquoise were all fine though.

All the nappyheads are out in force tonight

i've just been on babykind and really want to order some of the bamboozes for dd, and some lovely funky wraps as well
now where is my ccard??

naturemum · 18/01/2006 22:45

Am using Aplix and have never had a problem - very easy to use. The only problem I have found is Aplix on the wraps if they have not been done up properly - if fastened to high up it can rub on baby'e lovely soft skin and cause a red patch.

Even though the colours are cute I still prefer the unbleached. After a few washes the colours can look a bit dull

Lucky sister - which council is providing Tots Bots?

Miaou · 18/01/2006 23:00

I've got unbleached with nippas - I bought size 2 and used them from birth (ds was 8lbs) and they were easily adjustable. I got unbleached so that if I wanted to sell them on they would still look good. Downside to nippas is that dh won't change ds (he has fingers like sausages and just can't deal with the nippa!) but they are easy to put on.

at size 2 from birth... my ds is stil growing into his first size at 17 weeks!
I do have Aplix ones though

Gillian76 · 19/01/2006 09:05

Are the size 2s not really bulky miaou? I know they say you can use them from birth.

I preferred nippa to aplix (boots have nippas on sale at the moment too ). I used the coloured versions for daytime as they were slimmer, but white was more absorbant for night time....

Miaou · 19/01/2006 10:39

Weeeellll.... he does look a little like I've stuck him in a football... but I just use the next size up of clothes and it's fine! Never used disposables on him so I've nothing to compare really. But they didn't slip off or leak, and he seems comfy in them.

LeahE · 19/01/2006 10:55

I find nippas give a much better fit - also ds learned to undo velcro/aplix very early (now he's a bit older if he's in an aplix-fastening nappy and can get at it with his hands (which includes through layers of clothes sometimes) he'll look me in the eye, grab one tab and peel it open with that "I know I'm being naughty. Want to make something of it?" look). All our relations managed fine with nippas too after just one brief explanation (and we have some pretty cack-handed / sausage-fingered types on our family tree).

I like unbleached too. The colours look lovely at first but can get a bit tired. And I think unbleached are supposed to be a bit more absorbant.

Love the description Miaou!

He's learning to sit up just now - it's like having a permanently-attached bumbo

Cabe · 19/01/2006 20:18
