Just wondering if anyone has had a home visit from their Heath Visitor when their DC's were 3 or 4. The letter arived out of the blue and I thought the days of seeing the health visitor at home were done.

I'm going to make sure I'm in just curious as to why shes coming now as DD is upto date with injections, dentist etc.

Has she been to a&e a few times recently or anything like that? We didn't see hv for dust after 10 month check but I think there's a shortage round here.

no with all 3 dc

We are an 'at risk' family, with a disability in the family, new baby on the way and neither of the current children up to date with their jabs. Add to that ds has a statement with a school named in it that I refuse to send him to, and yet.........no-one is interested in us.

have you moved house or anything? we had one come round to see all the dc as we have recently (well not that recent but few months!) moved to the area?

We had a preschool assessment by the HV when my boys were 3/4 years I know on one occasion she offered a home visit but it was for some mundane reason (can't remember what now something like building work at the surgery) but I said I'd rather come to the health centre so made the appointment there.

Nothing sinister about it just standard practice

Thanks for the responses everyone :) We havent moved or had any A&E visits in the last 18 months, Dd did struggle with asthma when she was younger but fingers crossed its under control, she upto date with her asthma nurse appointments and her consultant is happy with her progress.

I did go to the doctors early last week and he seemed to think i was a little run down and maybe stressed so maybe my gp has asked the health visitor to come and check? Not sure of the likelyhood of that but who knows.

I wouldnt imagine its anything major, maybe just a preschool check. Suppose its good to get an extra visit, from what i hear all the health visitors are snowed under. Ill just have to wait until Wednesday to find out.

Its just a pre school check. My HV came at a similar time.

squarehat · 24/01/2012 00:04

Thanks podgymum, 1 other person I know said similar so thinking thats what it is. Just most people I know never had this visit and the letter was so unexpected it got me thinking. DD hasnt seen a HV since 4 weeks so I havent even thought about the HV since then. What type of things did they do/ask if you can remember?

Just a quick update if anyone is interested.

The health visitor was new to the area and had been passed my DD's file saying she had 'additional needs' turns out it was due to her being under a consultant for suspected asthma.

HV was really nice, helpful and chatty. She might be coming back to do a care plan for when DD starts school in September, depending on the outcome of a meeting with consultant in April.
