I have a boy and a girl. My son is 2.5 and knows that he has a willy but his baby sister does not. What do I tell him that girls have? Is there an equivlant of willy for girls i.e. something that is a bit joky but not rude or too "technical"? Thanks. Confused

DD's is called a "lala" She is 2.9yrs

DS has a "tiddler" but at 4.5yrs he also knows it's a penis.

When I was little, we would call it a 'widge' or 'widgawadge for its full title Grin

Asinine in Urdu(phonetic) Minnie means little girl, so thats quite sweet and fitting i think.Smile

Mini & winkle.

Hajdeby · 22/01/2012 21:41

Mine have their 'bits' at the front and their 'botty' at the back. Seems to have been enough so far and isn't too embarrassing if she uses the word in public - some of the words people use would make me cringe I think.

chipmunksex · 22/01/2012 21:45

bits, privates or nether regions for both ds and dd.

Asinine · 22/01/2012 21:48

TPKW

That's interesting, it also seems to be a regional expression here (North West).

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 22/01/2012 21:51

I agree with Rainy - my DC say they have a sore throat , not a sore pharynx , and they have sore tummies, not sore abdominal areas.
We don't feel the need to use the correct medical terminology within the home because we are a relaxed informal family.
So for us it's ' willy ' and ' bits '.
A lot of people seem to feel the same , otherwise why would MNet be awash be Fanjo's and not vaginas ?

lostinindia · 22/01/2012 21:56

There was a thread on this subject last week. After reading that I'm now referring to DD's vulva as her crotch. Figure that covers everything in her pants without having to come up with daft names for it.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 22/01/2012 22:01

I think i will tell her the correct words for school, but still use the informal fairy at home.

I do have a horror of her not knowing about her body.

I remember about 10 years ago, my mum saying "I don't know how you can be bothered with those Tampax, in and out every time you want a wee" Shock.

She was 55 at the time.Sad. I found out about periods through friends, and we never had a sex/relationship talk. Not once. Awful.

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 22/01/2012 22:09

Flower is very common where I come from and is probably what we will use when DD starts to show an interest, will wait until later to use the correct words when she is old enough to understand all the internal stuff such as vagina, uterus etc.

CornishMade · 23/01/2012 03:08

We use willy/penis equally, and fanny/vulva.
Like the idea of crotch though, that covers everything for everybody without embarrassment in public with a crazy toddler comment!
Also may start using private parts sometimes as well as ds grows a bit older, just to teach him that they are his and not for others to touch...

lizzywig · 23/01/2012 07:32

When DH was a tolder he said to his mum about his baby sister...."mum did you notice that her willy has fallen off?" definitely good to give it a name!!

barnowl · 24/01/2012 17:31

We use 'tinkles' for girl bits and 'pee-pee' for boy bits

normaleggy · 24/01/2012 17:39

Winkies and vinnies here.
Arf at MN being awash with fanjos Grin

Soccermom2 · 24/01/2012 18:18

We call it a 'gina!

Ive no girls but they often ask me what mine is. There was a lady last week on the radio, saying her and her dd were at a family party when her dd blurted out 'my mammy has a ponytail between her legs!DM was obviously mortified!!

specialagentmeh · 24/01/2012 18:48

Foo foo. Might introduce or vagina when she is three. Difficult isn't it. DD would much rather have a winkle.

WittyTitle · 28/01/2012 16:22

SOme of these are really funny! My daughter is 7 and calls it her Vah J-J, I think Vulva is vulgar sorry and im not even squeemish! Although my DD does know that if she was reffering to it sometimes she has to use the proper term, I work in a hospital and will never forget hearing about a little girl who had told her teacher, that her sisters boyfriend like stroking, playing with etc her bunny....and it was a serious case of Sexual Abuse that went undetected for far too long, as everyone assumed it was her pet rabbit getting some attention because of the cutesy name! Angry

Magneto · 28/01/2012 16:30

Thanks to dh's family, which has younger children in it than my side do, both boys and girls have a "wee-wee" so that's what we have been using with ds. Not sure I like it as there is no distinction between male and female parts but it does the job for the moment.

On my side of the family boys had a "mick" and girls had "bits" but I really despise using either of those names so definately not going to use them!

nickelhasababy · 28/01/2012 16:35

not decided yet.
might go down vulva route.

It seemed to be named underbeneathsies on my birth thread, but that might be too complicated for a toddler Grin

(tricky for us as DH is rather old and sheltered, so he might struggle with names fir it)

boglach · 29/01/2012 16:19

Vagina just now. will explain in more detail when she is older
