Every morning DD (2) has a massive tantrum <HELP>

She has always been demanding. She usually wakes between 5/6. I put her in with me and she will sometimes nod back off. When we go down she screams and screams, throws cereal on the floor, runs around screaming, throws toys and other noisy mayhem.
Her screaming is so high pitched and the banging is getting me down.
I have tried putting her back to bed, ignoring, telling off and distraction. I have too much to do first thing to deal with this.
This has been going on for two weeks and lasts for about an hour each morning. It is now causing problems between dp and I, as I worry about the noise affecting the neighbours and am getting more and more stressed by it all.

I'm probably telling you something that you know, but young child wake several times a night, but automatically put themselves back to sleep. Well for some children the more sleep they've had the less sleep imperative they have to go back to sleep, even though they need a little bit more, iyswim.

DD does this, it seems to be a combination of not finding it easy to go back to sleep even though she's still a bit tired, combined with low blood sugar, which equals some bloody awful behaviour far too early. If we get her up, she's very cranky indeed, tantrums over the slightest thing

So, we give her a 5 oz bottle of juice or milk and tell her it's still night-night time, it's still dark and mummy and daddy are sleeping. It puts her back to sleep for between 40 mins-1 hour 20 and when she wakes again she's much sunnier. It didn't happen immediately but it's pretty infallible now.

We've haven't co-slept since I stopped breast feeding at 6 months so coming in to mummy and daddy is very exciting and she doesn't go back to sleep, so this works best for us, though I think we're going to wean her off expecting the bottle soon.

Do have a bit of patience and hang around, more people will reply. Parenting is just sleepier than over sections. Give it 24 hours and you'll have a few more responses (probably some of them saying that giving juice/milk at 5am is irresponsible Grin)

Could she be hungry? We give DS a yoghurt as soon as he wakes up. And if he wakes at 5/6 that's usually his time to get up.

2 for low blood sugar then!

Thanks all. She is still BF so usually if she gets up at 5 I will put her in with me and she has boob for a bit.
If it is closer or after 6 I will take her down. She got up this morning had some boob went down at 6.10am, dp gave her a massive bowl of readybrek which she ate and as soon as she finished the tantrum started. Confused

Then ignore the tantrum. Put her out of harm's way in a different room or somewhere else she can scream and shout and then leave her to get on with it. You make a cuppa, read the paper or do whatever it is you do. Don't even acknowledge her. When it goes quieter, then engage with her positively. At the moment she's getting scream/shout/paddy = mummy's attention (and even if you're yelling it's still attention). By ignoring until calm she should eventually get the message.

Ignoring hasn't worked?

Maybe she's a bit groggy. DS can be grumpy too - he likes to donthe same thing every morning (yoghurt then sit down with us). Can you give her a snack and give her toys/books and keep her in her room for a bit.

Change your routine about? Go for a bath/ shower with her or an early morning walk. Could be boredom so she's making her own entertainment - a wild rumpus!
