random question - headphones

I'm just wondering, how old does a kid has to be to use headphones?... I've notices some for children that limit the volume, but still, how old does a child needs to be to be able to use them?

I'm asking because we just came back from an overseas holiday (14+ hour in a plane) and was thinking DD may had more fun if she had been able to watch some tv (not that much to do in a plane) but didn't knew if she was to young to use headphones and was a bit frustrated with the cartoons with no sound... and having family overseas this may be a recurrent problem, but I rather have a upset kid than to damage her hearing...

My DD is 4 and I bought her an innotab for Christmas. I also bought a pair of headphones last week for her size. Pretty pink ones. hoping that the 14hr flight with 9 month old would not be too bad. she has used the headphones a few times when she wanted to listen to stuff but baby was sleeping. Not sure of age limit but she uses it like 10-15 mins at a time currently.

I have no idea if there is an age guide, but I am sure there are time limit recommendations. I don't know if it's possible to buy the non in the ear type any more which would obviously allow for some sound dispertion. No way would I allow ear phones for a long haul flight, I'm with you on having an upset kid rather than a hearing damaged one.
