That's all really, my DCs are 3, 2 and 16mo, thinking about the future and having the opportunity to do an access to nursing for free as on IS, want to do something constructive with my life but wondering about the practicalities of studying then doing a degree??? How does it work? Does it work out for people. I'm not afraid of hard work but want something that's achievable not impossible iyswim

Not nursing, but I'm a single mum studying to be a doctor! I'm currently in my 2nd year of medical school (but it's my 3rd year studying, as I did a foundation year first!) and I'm loving it!

You need to be very organised and structure you time well, so you don't get behind, but it's very doable.

I try to ensure I do 8 hours of study a day (similar to an office job), get 8 hours of sleep and have 8 hours left for everything else (bathtime, school run, housework, shopping...). Not much downtime, but I do try to have lunch with a friend once a week, and a lie-on on the 2 Sundays a month without kids :)

That said, I'm not sure I would have coped with much younger kids (mine are currently 12, 9 and 7). When I started, they were all able to feed and dress themselves without much help from me and didn't need constant supervision...

Good luck if you decide to do it. I think it's great to have a plan for your own future :)

Thanks vit since I last posted I have found out so much and am now really excited about it. My only prob now, taking on what you've said too, is do I leave it another year (Sept 2013) when DS will be turning three as his childcare will be main problem. Also the college is a five minute walk but the Uni will be quite a few miles (on London public transport) so might make sense to wait a year then DS will be starting nursery when I start the degree.
