newborn nappies

I just bought some nappies ready for the birth of my baby and I was looking for newborn ones but the smallest I could find were 6 - 13 lbs so I assumed these were the newborn ones and got two packs (as you saved money that way).

Somehow I thought they were the wrong ones though. I have since seen adverts in magazines though for nappies that are actually called new baby and these are available in both newborn and mini. Will the ones I have bought be unsuitable? Will they be too big or is just that newborns have runnier poo and these new baby type are more absorbent to better able to cope with the poo?

I think you are thinking of Pampers New Baby which I found didn't contain the runny poo as well as the equivalent Huggies - think it is more of a marketing gimmick. I'm sure what you have is fine and you will get through them so quickly that you will have the opportunity to change brand/size very soon if need be.

I am sure the ones you have will be just fine as the wieght on them suggests that they are for newborns anyway.

We did use the Pampers New Baby and found they were pretty good. We always got on better with Pampers than the other brands. I guess everyone is different in their preferences. You may find that once the baby is here you try a few out anyway before finding the ones that suit you and your baby best.

I'm sure they will be fine Bez.

When I had my dd 6 years ago now we bought pampers newborn nappies 6-13lbs. WE couldn't find any smaller than that and figured they would fit, certainly wasn't expecting dd to weigh over 13lbs when she was born. Well DD duly arrived weighing in at 6lbs 9oz so I thought that's fine the nappies will fit but they were a bit on the big side but I didn't worry to much and had no problems with them. One midwife though did say to me I should have bought a smaller size of nappy, when I told her that those were the smallest we could find she said oh no you can get smaller ones for premature babies, so I retorted that My daughter was actually born 10 days late! We used them anyway and she grew into them and we never had a problem.

DH bought ASDA own brand newborn nappies by mistake when I was in hospital (like he couldn't remember the word Pampers!) We stuck with them because they were fantastic and we found out, better than the brand names. They did the job (har har!) for the first couple of months anyway - twin ds' were 5lb and 5lb4oz so needed newborn size for a few weeks.

Not relevant to this discussion really but just thought I'd say.

i had dd 4 weeks ago, use tesco newborn....6-11lbs - no probs... but will start using next size up next week or so as she is filling them up nicely!... even next sizeup is small - 7-13lbs i think .... cjeaper than brand names

We used Pampers new baby for dd. They were a little big but so what? You just stick the tabs on further in - no probs!

You normally get samples from different places - new baby offers etc. And try swapping a couple of nappies with other new mums so you can find best for you. But like LIZS says, you go through them so quickly you could test a different brand every week !
I stuck with pampers for the smaller sizes and when I needed bigger sizes (around age 2) the Boots own brand seemed to fit my boys better - they both have slim waist and are above average height for age but normal weight for age IYKWIM.
