Hello!

I am due to start an Access to Higher Education for Health course in 2 weeks time.
I am a bit nervous as I haven't studied since my A-levels in 1993!
I will be studying Biology and Social Sciences as part of the course and I have applied to study Midwifery after.

Has anyone got any advice? How are you/ did you get on? What can I expect?

So many questions!!!!!

Im in the second year of my access to health sciences course, i can honestly say its the best thing that i have ever done.
i have'nt found the work to be too hard ( its not a doddle though either!)

I have coped really well with assignments and exams and have been accepted by two universities for nursing degree in oct.

each college structures its courses differently so i cannot say what you will expect in your course, so far i have studied-

physiology
psychology
research methods
Biochemistry
maths
health and society issues
study skills.

what subjects will you be studying? and is it a full time course? - mine is part time over two years- but its has flown by!

Blimey Tiredemma! You are doing a lot of subjects!

My access course is full time (3 full days a week) for a year, taking me to Xmas this year, with view to starting my Midwifery degree in Feb 2007.

I will be covering Biology (human mainly), psychology and sociology, with a bit ot IT thrown in and something called Progression studies.

I am so looking forward to it and surprisingly can't wait to do something with my brain!

Is there one piece of advice you could give me?

Sorry that didn't sound very good. What I meant was if you could only give me one piece of advice what would it be? You know what I mean!!

dont leave assignments to the last minute!

I t can be more of a heavy work load than uni at times as there is constant coursework, but if you keep attending and doing what they ask you will be okay, start things before everyone else and work consistantly as you can, as it is always when you leave things to the last minute that ds or dd will need you especially. I only wanted to get highers and did an acess course and now im in 3rd year at uni, it can get addictive as it makes you feel good to know that you can achieve, and look after your kid/s. Good luck with everything

Thank you Jennylee!
