I was wondering if any of you started your diploma/degree without having maths or science gcse. I want to apply for a midwifery course I have english gcse plus 3 alevels 1 as level total of 240 points. I also did 1 year of an anthropology degree.
anyone know if this would be suffifcent?
or would i have to get maths or a science gcse?
thanks

im not a student but am a nurse, it depends on the university you apply to, however, mostdo like you have a minimum of 5 gcses with maths or science as i of those, they usually do like you to have maths, what are your a levels in?

spacecadet · 14/01/2006 19:46

best thing to do is contact the uni you are interested in and ask what the minimum qualifications are.

me23 · 14/01/2006 20:31

A levels are English, Sociology, politics and As in media. So nothing science related.
I will contact a few unis and ask.
hope they might consider me without it.
btw have read some of your other thread sorry to hear about your poor health but was so lovely what the mners did with the meals and nanny offering help. restored my faith (a bit) in human kindness hope you back to good health very soon.

You need a maths GCSE equivilant to do midwifery and nursing in the uk, its the law.

Midwifery is very very popular, you may want to consider a revelavet course at college, and spending some time in a hospital setting for experience.

(I am a student nurse BTW)

yes ive def had my faith in human nature restored, everyone on here is fab
there is also the route of working as a health care assistant, getting your nvqs while working so you get paid, then onc e you are nvq3 you could apply to be seconded which means you study for a further 18 months whilst being paid your nvq3 salary, then you qualify and if you go down this route(at the hospital im at) you do not need the maths gcse.
