Blackout blinds/curtains in a recess?

I'm just sorting a nursery for DC2 and am very keen on blackouts as he will be a spring baby. In DC1's room I have a blackout blind and blackout curtains, however DC2's window is in a recess (kind of into the eaves of the roof)

I guess I can get a blackout blind to go in there, but how do I do curtains as well?

If you have blackout blind do you really need curtains as well?

I like a belt and braces approach as light comes into the room first thing in the morning and blinds never go right up to the edges of the window

We got blackout fabric and stuck it on the window with velcro - so there was absolutely no light getting in.... didn't help her sleep though....

Thanks CC, that's not a bad idea. did you sew the velcro on yourself? My DS1 is a good sleeper, especially in the mornings and I (rightly or not) attribute some of this to his double blackouts

Actually stapled the velcro onto the blind (too tough to sew as i don't have a sewing machine) and stuck the other strip round the window. Fits perfectly. She does actually sleep pretty well, but is an early riser - but it really helps with her daytime nap. Only problem is when we go away she can't sleep as she finds it too light!

Gro anywhere black out blinds have suckers on them which attach to the window - means they are also portable which is handy when going on holiday etc.
