super clingy 10month old - I can't get anything done!

My baby is the youngest of 3. ds1 was very clingy but also quite laid back and happy to sit and watch if he could see me, ds2 very independent so i could get a lot done. ds3 on the other hand seems to spend most of the day grizzling, crying, sobbing as he desperately crawls after me, screaming if he can't see me. He does spend time playing happily on his own and exploring but if I then run off to get something he'll be screaming by the time I get back.
I am in the middle of potty training, I have the usual mountain of housework/washing/cleaning/tidying to keep on top of and can't do very much with him on my hip or in a sling. We live in a townhouse with lots of stairs. i don't think there is a magic answer and a lot of it coincides with hunger/tiredness. i get comments every day about how happy and smiley he is, and he is, but he is driving me insane!! i'm struggling to cope with things as it is.

Sorry to hear you are struggling. I don't know if I can be of much help. I thought my son wasn't at all clingy until he turned one and now he's suddenly got very mummyish. He's fine with someone else if I'm not in the room but if I'm there he doesn't like anyone else to hold him.

Have you got a sling you can use on your back, such as a soft-structured carrier? Yesterday DS was being quite clingy so I put him on my back and managed to get some cooking done that way. That's how I do the vacuuming as well. I often take him to the loo with me.

Things are a bit easier for me as I don't have any other children and I'm quite slack about housework - I almost never iron. Could your OH help out with more of the housework and childcare?

My son (nearly 11mths) is exactly the same!! He will just cry and cling to my legs all day, but then stop crying the moment I pick him up and carry him round! Nightmare!
For weeks I've been stressing about it wondering what I could do to stop it, but then the other day something just clicked and I realised that it's only a phase (a very difficult and annoying phase!) and that he will soon realise that I always come back and the phase will be over. So I am currently just putting up with it, and doing as many of the jobs as possible when he is napping/gone to bed for the night. I don't know I'd this attitude might help you? Fingers crossed for us both!! :-) xxx
