Night wakings

Hi all,

My daughter (14months) has recently had a cold, conjunctivitis, teething and a horrible cough. Now we are through the worst of it, and although I suspect she is still teething everything else has pretty much cleared up. However, she is still very unsettled at night. How do we know if this is her teeth hurting her or if she is now simply in the habit of waking and being re-settled?

Help!

My ds was like this for a month with illness and teething. I was worried about his sleep habits but he is back to normal now. Hth!

Aaaah! Last night she stirred and screamed til 12.45. I gave her calpol which calmed her. She then woke at 4.10 and was just awake so we got up at 6.15. (between 4.10 and 6.15 she dozed in my arms a tiny bit and was totally calm, just awake!!)

Help!

I don't like giving her calpol too much, is the fact that she settled for a few hours sleep after having it proof that she needed it and was in pain? Please don't let this just be habit, I'm tired!!

In reality, I think it wouldn't have made much difference if it had been calpol on the spoon or warm milk .... in other words, her sleep patterns have got interrupted for whatever reason and it calms her knowing that you're there, with or without medicine. You could even try a spoonful of warm milk and see if it works. It's just something you have to put up with for a while but they do get back to self-settling eventually. Until the next cold or whatever. Ah... the pleasures of motherhood!!!

Thanks for replying Cogito I know what you mean re the calpol. But we don't reach for it til the 4th (or so) time of going into her. So we've already re-settled her and she's had one of us there as comfort. It's only when we give her calpol that she finally goes to sleep for a few hours.

In that case, max strength on the calpol for a bit longer.... maybe at bedtime rather than waiting until she wakes up? My DS was a terrible teether. 'The Prince of Drool' we used to call him. Spent a lot of time drugged. :)
