Roughly when did you stop telling your dcs to.....

.....clean their teeth, take a shower, wash hair, brush hair, change clothes etc....???

Not sure if I'm expecting too much but my dcs (10, 8 and almost 6) wouldn't do many of the above (if any) if I didn't tell them to. The youngest one I expect to have to remind a bit, but I thought the older 2 would be taking a bit more responsibility by now. I'm not overly picky about how they look or how clean they are but things like teeth-cleaning HAVE to happen in my opinion, and yet still they would never do it unless I told them specifically. The 10 year old needs to shower every day now or she gets a bit smelly.

Things like remembering homework, PE kit etc I can leave to them as it's their problem if they forget, but the basic hygiene and semi-decent appearance I find harder to let go.

What do you do with your dcs?

I think you still have a few years of nagging/reminding/telling ahead of you tbh.

:o

roughly? About the time dd1 became interested in boys, you have a while to go yet Xmas Grin

I don't have children that old but I know my SIL still has to nag my nearly 12 year old niece to shower.

Ah well, probably had hopes a bit high then. DD1 was last told at the dentist that she has beginnings of a cavity (didn't get filling as tooth will fall out soon) which I was hoping might scare her into better teeth-brushing. Actually it did, for about a day.

DS is almost 9 and hasn't needed to be asked to shower, tidy room or get ready for school for about 2 years. I am not boasting though: I think it's bloody wierd! He is clean and tidy obsessed. He came back from his fathers the other day mortally offended he had to wear the same PJs for 3 nights. He keeps his bedroom tidy, likes hoovering and lays all his clothes out the night before school. If I let him he would set an alarm so he had more time to get ready before school. I am genuinely concerned I have some how given him "issues" Confused

I have 3 ds 9, 12 and 14 and my eldest is the worst for these things.......he would never brush his teeth or shower if I didn't nag him to near death yet my middle ds is perfectly capable of doing these things without reminders!

I know people who are still reminded at 19yo. Madness.
