...or do I need to wait for hips to be tested at 6 week check? Thanks!

I used a stretchy sling wrap from birth without waiting for the hip test, but I carried DD in the cradle position (which I think is recommended until they have head control), so it didn't have much effect on her hips anyway.
Good luck...my DD loved her sling...she's 4 now, and I miss her that close to me!

Yes, you can. Wrap slings will hold your baby's hips in the correct physiological position anyway, but you must make sure that their knees are always higher than their hips. In newborns, legs in tucked under their body is usually comfier but as they get older they will want their legs out.

I have used them from birth with all three of mine - have followed the wrapping instructions that came with my didymos to get the right hip position, but used an upright one as could never get a cradle position to work.

What Norks said, use it in the cradle position at first and then move onto the legs akimbo position when they can hold their head better. I remember with DD1 we did that at about 4 weeks already, DH had her in the sling with his huge rain jacket wrapped entirely around him and her (hard to imagine now that she is actually a centimetre taller than me). You could just see her head peeking out of the top.

Thanks all, that's really helpful. I'm looking forward to having another little baby to carry around, i loved carrying DD, until our combined weight took its toll on my very weak feet!
