Recommendations for a heater for child's room

Hi there,

It is becoming so cold in DS1 (aged 3)'s room that he has started waking up in the night. He's in the loft conversion and I just think that it is a bit exposed to the elements up there. In summer it is ludicrously hot.

He has suddenly started waking up in the night, has a persistent cough, and when I go in to see him I am really struck by the sudden dip in temperature there is as you go up the stairs (there is a skylight on the landing too which lets in a horrendous draught).

As I go in I am half expecting to hear David Attenborough narrating about the ancient looking mother-bear braving the elements in order to see its cub.

Anyway - I think I would like to try a safe heater - does anyone have any recommendations? Are oil filled radiators any good? I don't like the thought of the old fashioned kind of electric fan heater - too worried about fire. i'm sure I remember buying some sort of plug in heater that looked like a radiator from B&Q a few years ago that didn't work at all.

Last night I turned the heating on at 4am - whcih warmed his room up a bit but obviously left DH in a spluttering overheated rage...

Not sure what to do for the best, any advice would be so welcome

thanks
x

We have an electric oil filled radiator with a thermostat. tape the thermostat at the temperature you wany, so fiddly fingers don't alter it, and keep it well clear of bedding

I bought this one for my dgs. It has a timer so you can set it to come on and go off when it suits, and it also has a thermostat so it won't get too hot.

thank you. what is the make of your one?

We have the delonghi dragon, had a cheaper one before that but it didn't last abd the dragon seems alot more solid/easy to alter.

We've got a Delonghi electric radiator (don't remember the precise model) and are very happy with it. A bit fiddly to set, because you have to crouch down at exactly the right angle to see the controls, but, apart from that, it seems pretty reliable and maintains a steady temperature.

If your ds is coughing in the night, you might want to take him to the GP. It can be an indication of asthma.

OK - thank you - I think I will go for a Delonghi.

I didn't know that about asthma and night time coughing - asthma runs in the family - I'll get it checked out
