Slight turn in 8 month old eye

Public health nurse told me yesterday that my eight month old has a slight turn in her right eye. I never noticed it and nobody has ever commented on it. She has referred us on to another doctor who will then assess her and refer on to consultant.
I can see it now that it has been pointed out to me - it is very slight.
What happens next? Has anyone been through this?

My DS was referred as HV thought she saw it. The specialist had cards that just looked like a mottled pattern to me as I only have sight in one eye. My DS was clearly looking towards certain parts of each picture though and the specialist said there were small objects ( a car or teddy etc) in each picture which can be seen if both eyes are working properly together.

As he was fine that was the end of it for us and I know a couple of friends who had similar experiences, i think it is hard to tell if there is a slant or the face is just asymetrical iyswim.

I noticed dd's eye turning just before her 4th birthday.

She was seen at the hospital and we were told she had a slight squint, probably as a result of being long sighted and her eyes getting tired trying to over-compensate. She was given glasses which resolved the squinting but after 3 months started having her 'good' eye patched to try and improve the vision in the poor eye.

From your point of view, the earlier any issues, however small are picked up the better. The improvements in dd's vision after just 3 months of patching are incredible and the squint has never re-appeared. She will probably always need glasses to help her long sightedness but she has come so far in a matter of months. She is now being 'weaned' off her patch, wearing it for just 2 hours a day and will stop it altogether in the new year.

Good luck with your dc's appointment.

any squint needs to be checked out as it could mean that there is an eyesight problem. DD was referred to the orthoptist at the hospital when she was 18 months as she was squinting. She turned out to be long sighted and got glasses. She also had patching treatment as her squinting eye was also lazy (poorer eyesight in that eye) and now her eyesight is pretty much equal. She still wears glasses for longsight (age 8).
