Is there anything I can do to stop ds 5 from leaking in his pants?

every day his pants are wet, I'm fed up with him coming home from school stinking of wee.

He has to have a clean pair of trousers every day.

I'm worried about him getting teased by his class mates coz he smells.

Does anyone have any tips on how to help him be dry in the day?

Mine did this, having been non-leaky for a year. It was precipitated by an incident where a friend of his was pushing him around when we visited his house one day and he sat on my lap and wet himself. For the next year he was leaky at school and claimed not to realise. He responded well to rewards for dry pants - I think it distracted him from whatever was bothering him. After a few weeks of daily rewards (and inconsistently dry pants) he gradually stopped doing it and the rewards were phased out. No lapses in the few years since. Madly frustrating at the time.

If your ds is fine at home, it suggests he's either not being reminded enough or something's bothering him about going at school.

My ds did this, drove me mad. He was just too darn lazy to go and wee.

I went on and on and on at him. Tried all sorts. Nothing worked till he became a bit more bodily aware.

He is 9 now and no longer leaky!

Has he ever been completely dry? Is he dry at night? If not, I'd maybe get a referral to a specialist through your GP just in case there's a physical problem. But I think it's still quite common in 5 year olds, especially boys.
I would also ask the school to make sure he's reminded to wee every hour and to get him to change his clothes if he's wet. Mine also had spells of laziness and actually needed to be made to go to the loo because if he was asked, he'd say he didn't need to go and then he'd be wet 5 minutes later. Infuriating.

Is he drinking enough? A childs bladder will shrink really quickly and be unable to hold much if they are not stretching it by drinking plenty.

Also don't let him drink blackcurrant or apple juice, stick to water just in case his bladder is being irritated.
