Do you take it off at night?

I'm thinking of getting one for super-dribbly DD2, but I'm not sure what to do about night times.

Thanks

Isn't it a bit risky to put jewellery on your baby at night?

Tonksforthememories · 05/12/2011 21:56

DS wears his at all times, but he's 2 and for younger DC they tell you to take it off at night. Maybe a bracelet/anklet would be better?

I got ours from Amber pumpkin

When my ds3 wore one, he kept it on all of the time. He also slept in bed with me,I never worried. They are not so loose that it could cause problems.

The only time I took it off was when he needed a ct scan in hospital, and then I lost it!

My DD has had hers on since she was 4 months old and she is now 19 months. We have never seen the need to take it of. Think it would be so strange for her and us for her not to be wearing it. Whenever people have told me that they don't work, you find that they are removing them at night.

pookamoo · 05/12/2011 22:12

rita that's why I was asking. The two worries are her strangling herself, or choking on it.

She sleeps in bed with me but she's only 3 months, and like tonks said, I had heard you should take them off at night for very little ones.

knysna I did think they might be most important at night! Someone suggested wrapping it round her ankle in the night. then I'd worry it would tighten and cut off the circulation to her foot!

My ds has worn his since he was 4 months old and the only time I ever take it off is when he has a bath.
I've not read anything about the need to take it off at night and can't see how it could be a choking or strangling risk. They aren't loose or Long enough. Ds has his tucked inside his sleepsuit and he has never played or pulled at it.

AngelsfromtherealmsofgloryDog · 06/12/2011 14:53

The leaflet which came with mine said not to allow your child to wear it when sleeping. If he was in the sling on my front or in the (rear facing) pram while I was looking at him then I didn't mind him having it on whilst asleep.

worldgonecrazy · 06/12/2011 14:56

We used to wrap it around DD's ankle at bedtime, under her sleep suit, and it was absolutely fine. It didn't tighten up during the night as the beads are quite chunky.

Since a year old she has worn it around her neck 24/7 without any problem at all.

KirstyJC · 06/12/2011 14:58

We take it off for nights.

vess · 06/12/2011 15:06

I didn't take it off for DD2, but worried a bit. It was fine though.
Hasn't been much help with teething TBH, but at least it looks nice!

howcomes · 07/12/2011 03:10

My ds wears his all the time, at night, in the bath etc. If he sees a picture of someone wearing a necklace in a book he always reaches up to his neck to show he has one too! He is 19 months and has worn it since his first teeth came through at 8 months.

I'm not totally convinced it works though ds has had a lot of com

howcomes · 07/12/2011 03:12

Bother, hit post too quickly! Meant to say ds has had a lot of compliments on it but mostly now people think he is a little girl with a necklace as he has a very pretty face and quite long blonde hair as I haven't cut it yet!

effingwotsits · 07/12/2011 03:52

Ds has his on all the time. Has done since about 5m.
