Have previosuly been of the school of thought that it was just another right on baby problem solution which merely provided pyschological reassurance and resolution. now faced with DD2 who cries a huge amount, feeds badly and generally seems to be an unhappy baby despite me taking every step I can to ensure she's not windy / colicky / sleepy / hungry / wet I am now consdiering it as a possible way of making her more content.

So, is it any good?

Pennies and Goldenoldie, I am in Hackney too!

I took my little boy to the Osteopathic Centre of Children in Farringdon when he was only 1 week old... He'd had a traumatic labour with lots of pushing that did nothing and then ventouse AND forceps! He had quite a lump on his head from the ventouse and was favouring one side to turn his head to (probably cos one side was more squished than the other), so I wanted to try and nip any problems in the bud if I could!

I have to admit I was quite sceptical at first as you can't really tell what they are doing... and when you try and describe it as "manipulating the head" it sounds much more dramatic that it is... they really just seem to cradle the head or specific part of the body being treated... but I had some sessions myself too as I was feeling really drained and felt the effect of the osteopathy myself!

We've just stopped going to the OCC now and I have a lovely cheery baby boy on my hands - who has no preference to the way he turns his head!

I have recommended it to lots of people. The OCC is a lovely friendly place to go to - with all the kids in one bright and airy room, full of toys and the sounds of children!

My mother went to the same CO as my dd (My Mum was in early 50's at the time) as she had suffered horredous migraines all her life - sometimes accompanied by blackouts - she had a trumatic delivery which ended up in a botched forceps delivery (one side of the forceps went into her ear canal and she is deaf in that ear)

Her jaw was misaligned - they think due to the assisted delivery and over a few treatments the CO managed to manipulate it back in line - she has not suffered migraines since

Pennies

If you do a Google search on CO and fast/quick deliveries you will find lots of info on how CO can help babies who have been delivered very quickly

  • my friends baby was delivered in 2 hours from start of labour and underwent CO treatment as she was extremley unhappy and colicky - helped her enormously - Mum had treatments too as she was so stressed about the situation! She felt it helped her (and her dd)

I am very interested in all of your comments. Am about to embark on CO treatment for my 11mth old, ventouse delivery, hugely problematic breastfeeding initially and still occasionally now and fluid in ears from recurrent colds. All I have read today has cheered me immensly as many around me are sceptical! Thankyou..........will post results.

How bizarre I just logged on to my weekly e-mail and saw the link regarding cranial oesteopathy. This is the first time that I have posted anything! So here goes.

I am about to take my little boy for his first session tomorrow - he is 18 months old.

My son has never been a great sleeper but has got worse over the past few weeks and he has also started head banging.

I have read various toddler books and sleep books for some help and guidance but have generally found them to be of no help. I cannot believe that I should ignore the headbanging "babies don't hurt themselves", "its done for attention". I find it very upsetting and distressing to have a toddler who has a forehead full of bumps and bruises - luckily his hair covers it.

A lady a gym told me about how cranial oesteopathy helped her little boy. I decided to call and am willing to give it a try - if it claims to help without the use of drugs then I am willing to give it a go - I did hypno-birthing (ended up with a CS though) and my dog has accupuncture for dodgy hips!

The chap that I am going to see, stated that the plate problems (as discusseed by mums on earlier postings) can lie dormant but due to growth spurts can cause the child to have headaches later on and in turn they will headbang to stop the pain. I do not think that it works soley for babies. The lady that recommended it still takes her son for top up sessions and he is now 7.

Thank you all for the kind words of support fingers crossed it will help.

Pennies...we tried CO...was fab, DD had compression after dropping down into my pelvis at only 28weeks and suffered from bad digestive problems/sicky etc. My other suggestion would be to see a homeopath...this worked a treat too. Am a big believer in alternative medicine/treatments but also sceptical until i try something. not sure where you are in London but my friend is a homeopath down there and if you're not near her but would like to see someone that's been recommended i could probably get a number for you. i reckon anything's worth a try especially things that don't do any harm or have side effects! good luck
