We've found a babysitter - what are the "basics"?

We have a 4 yo DS. No family nearby to babysit nor do we have friends nearby that we have felt comfortable to ask. We have now found a babysitter that we trust and that DS knows and feels comfortable with. Hurray! But it's left me wondering: what are the basics of having someone babysit your DC? For example, how much should I expect to pay, roughly? Am I expected to feed her/supply her with snacks/give her money for a take away (home delivered obviously)? Apart from the appropriate payment for her time and potential effort (hopefully Ds will sleep most of the time so it shouldn't be too onerous), what am I expected to provide?
It feels stupid to have to ask, but I have no idea what to expect in this situation Blush.

A comfy sofa for the snogathon.

As a reg CM I charge £6.50ph.

I'd like to know...

Where tea/coffee is?
Is there any snacks I can help myself to (a biscuit/cake/toast is fine)
Bedtime routine inc. lights on/doors closed/drinks/stories/toileting
Emerency numbers/ where you will be
Back door key location (for emergency)

I wouldn't expect money for a takeaway or dinner unless babysitting is starting before 6pm.

I think payment depends on age and experience. I know people who pay £20 for an evening for four or five hours and others who pay £10 an hour! Lower paid babysitters I'd feed pizza, nice readymeal type thing. I've paid £8.50 an hour before and at that rate it's tea and biscuits.

If you have internet, the wifi code/ logging in to a computer is nice. Beyond that the remote control and an explanation into how the dvd player works.

Thanks for your replies. She works in a nursery so is a professional. I'm thinking of asking her over for an hour next weekend so taht she can have a look around before we leave her in charge of DS the first time and we can discuss how much she charges and any other requirements. Does that sound like a reasonable thing to do?

Sounds reasonable to me.

When I babysat (back when Methusalah was a lad!) I was given free reign over drinks and a specific cupboard/box for snacks; I don't think I ever abused this.

For longer "sits" dinner was usually a frozen pizza & chips to stick in the oven (I pre-dated the arrival of delivery pizza in out area! Xmas Grin )

Thank you to everyone who has responded. Much appreciated. Don't feel quite so ignorant now!
