Handy Child-Friendly Phrases

I have no idea how to speak to other people's dcs. My ds is 5 months so obviously he doesn't understand anything I say, but we are often around toddlers who can be a bit naughty/ a bit rough with ds. I don't want to shout 'Stop that!' or overreact to small things but it would be good to gently (but firmly) stop them doing certain things.

What's the best way to get the message across without offending/upsetting anyone? Has anyone got some handy child-friendly phrases for such occasions?

I have heard people use these and have taken them as my own Blush I think they are kind and firm:
" we don't do that .... "
" that's not kind ... "

Yes, I say "that's not very nice/kind, is it?" if toddler being a bit aggressive with DCs.
Or a loud "careful!" if damage to property looks likely (usually draws attention of the parents if nothing else).

Thanks, that's the kind of thing I was looking for Smile

We say, 'Kind hands only for the baby, please!' or 'Kind hands for faces please!' and show him what we mean by stroking said thing with his hands and saying 'Ahhhhhh'.

Gentle!
That's not very kind

Tell them what you do want them to do, not what you don't.

I go for an NLP approach. So not "don't bump into the baby"

BUt

"the baby is sleeping soundly, lets keep it that way by being nice and quiet around him.

Basically, waht angeldog said.

If the parent isn't around "what would your mummy say if she saw you doing that?"

A good tip is Less is more on the language from
When talking to little people - so keep it short n sweet don't over do the explanation
