What do you do when you need the loo?

When you are out with a baby in a pram what do you do if there is no loo big enough to fit pram in? Do you try to go to the loo holding baby (awkward getting trousers up and down) and risk pram getting nicked or do you park pram outside door and hope no one walks off with pram and baby? nearly peed myself as could not decide and legged it home.

last time I left the door open and the pram kind of blocking it. I wouldn't do that if I needed a poo though! Then I'd probably hold baby and leave pram outside. I figure it's all women in a ladies loo, they can cope with seeing someone else do a wee, but a poo may just cross some social boundaries. IYKWIM.

  1. Learn where the family toilets are
  2. Find an end cubicle and lead the pram outside with the door ajar
  3. Go before you leave home [arf]
Svrider · 24/11/2011 20:41

I find the end cubicle and ram the pram into the door way to block most of the view. I then pee as quick as possible.
Unthinkable to leave baby n hope no one takes it IMHO

I lost the desire to pee at about halfway through child 2 - I can go for hours and hours now....

X posts. Bowel control is all!
May need to arrange a more convenient time with ur bowels

Octaviapink · 25/11/2011 19:09

Wedge buggy into open door of cubicle. It's not like there'd be any privacy anyway with DD shouting "Oooh, Mummy weeing now! Clever girl Mummy!"

crepes · 26/11/2011 07:48

Not pc I know but if no family cubicle I used to go into the disabled toilet (i pee fast!) failing that I would go to last cubicle furthest from door, wedge door open with buggy then pee! I have pee'd holding baby though!

crepes · 26/11/2011 07:49

On a side note I noticed many disabled toilets double up with baby changing!

Aliceinboots · 26/11/2011 21:41

I can't remember any particular problems and I have a bladder the size of a grape.
I think I took the pram into the disabled toilets, was as quick as possible and saved poos for the luxury of home.

Albrecht · 26/11/2011 22:04

(Its not a good idea to admit to using disabled toilets when you are not disabled on Mumsnet.)

Leggings and long tops are easier to get up and down and less obvious if everything is not returned to the right place, while holding a baby. Belts are a nightmare.

Back carry with a sling means you can both fit in even tiny toilets. Ds can now stand up and spends his time either trying to get at the sanitary bin / toilet brush or peeking out under the door.

lisad123 · 26/11/2011 22:07

Another for blocking door with pram!

Haberdashery · 26/11/2011 22:12

Take the baby in with you. You can put something on the floor (foldable changing mat? Mine was a godsend) and lie the baby on that.

Graciescotland · 26/11/2011 22:14

I use disabled toilets too Blush in my defence it's where the baby change often is. Actually to be fair I'm in the Netherlands and I've only ever seen the baby change is in the disabled toilet except in Ikea.

I can't imagine leaving the baby outside when there is the possibility of using the disabled toilet. I keep on imagining the incredulous expressions on the police officers faces when I explain that I didn't want to hold up the facility and that is why my baby has been kidnapped. Unlikely I know but meh.

Meglet · 26/11/2011 22:17

Learn where the family loo's are or use the disabled loo very fast.

WhoWhoWhoWho · 26/11/2011 22:20

I would put pushchair right up against the door with the door so I could see baby but nowhere had a full view of me peeing.

I have a child who relies on using the disabled toilets. Please do not use these unless you are using the baby change facilities in them (or you are disabled obviously).

I have noticed a lot of newer toilets have a cubicle where the door opens outwards so you can get pushchair in there with you. Probably wouldn't fit a big pram in though.

bushymcbush · 26/11/2011 22:27

Disabled loo. Don't really care if it's not part of the "mumsnet" code of conduct. I've done this a few times and never found anyone waiting outside. Apart from other mums with prams.

bushymcbush · 26/11/2011 22:34

If I use a disabled toilet, I don't think I am preventing anyone else - disabled or otherwise - from using it - apart from during the 2 minutes I might be in there of course. 5 minutes if I'm using the baby change (and I usually am using the baby change, as well as using the loo myself).

lechatnoir · 26/11/2011 22:37

But WWWW if there's no toilet large enough for a pram/more than 1 person surely it's not unreasonable to share the disabled toilet? When my two were young (ie toddler & pram) there's no way I'd leave either the door ajar for DS1 to run off/swing open or the pram outside, which usually leaves the disabled toilets as the only option.

Obviously not right for queue jumpers or lazy sods to use the disabled facilities but I really don't think having to wait a minute or so for a parent & pram is so bad.

Albrecht · 26/11/2011 23:01

Some disabled people can't wait for the loo due to the nature of their disability - when they need to go, they need to go.

AllThreeWays · 27/11/2011 03:27

I use the disabled, in Oz they are usually labelled multi purpose anyway.

If someone with a disability can't wait and needs to go there an then, they couldn't have walked to thetoiets anyway.
