OMG can't believe what I did this morning - bad Mummy alert.

We have a stairgate between kitchen and dining/living room. I ironed some clothes for this morning (something I never do during the day normally) and then went upstairs to get DD a pair of socks. Came back down and the stairgate was open (could have sworn I shut it) but worse than that the iron was on the side still plugged in and with the cable dangling. DD's only 17 1/2 mo and I cannot even bear to think what could have happened if she had pulled on the cord.

I still feel so so sick and angry at myself. Went out today in the car and also noticed I hadn't changed the tax disc yet and when I came back the back door wasn't locked. DP had let himself out this morning and told me it was open but DD and I went on the front door (again something I very rarely do)!

I know I'm 39 weeks pregnant but I shouldn't be allowed out, am going to sit on the sofa all day today so I'm not a danger to anyone.

Cannot believe the iron thing though

Cheer up ! It happens, and fortunately no ill came of it. You'll be double and triple checking for a while to come though.

Oh please don't beat yourself up. I remeber being that pregnant and I was so forgetful I was positively bovine! Nothing bad DID happen.

lyra41 · 05/01/2006 12:11

don't worry sweetkitty, your guardian angel obviously had his eye on you this am. just take it as a hint to take it easier and do less and rest more. we all have days like this.

Poor SK, I understand your anger and frustration. Lucky nothing bad did happen. I suppose we all have our moments - I have dropped Thomas on the floor before in an attempt to playfully swing him over my shoulder and the other day I watched him slide off our bed head first and there was nothing I could do because my pg belly wouldn't let me jump up to grab him.

I am not pregnant. Yesterday I went into the spare room instead of the bathroom before bed and when I did go into the correct room, I put liquid soap on my toothbrush instead of toothpaste. Happens to us all.

Hi i have done some really stupid things, i am pregnant and have a 19month son. I was cleaning our spare room out, i went outside to put a dustbin bag out, when i came back in i thought i had shut the door. My toddler was in the spare room with me, then i looked round and he wasn't there, i went into the halway looking for him and to my horror the front door waws open and i ran outside, and luckily my son had climbed up our front steps and was sitting down playing with a toy car in the gravel, if he had been a bit more adventurous he could have walked out onto the main road a few metre's away. I felt so sick and ashamed that i had not shut the door even though i thought i had. I know i was in the irst stages of pregnancy but thats no excuse, i could'nt stop thinking about what could have happened.

I did one similar to Tilley last week... took the rubbish outside, came back in to where I thought DD was watching a video, and she was nowhere to be seen. I was hunting the house calling for her, when I heard knocking and yells of "Mummy!! Stuck!!!" from the front door . She'd toddled out after me, and I'd shut her out .

Do more sitting, and much less ironing - it was an accident and no harm was done.

I was in mothercare yesterday waiting for the lift, when the lift doors opened a very, very young toddler walked out of the lift followed by... no-one. His poor mummy had turned her back for two seconds upstairs and he'd got in the lift without her noticing and then the doors had closed when I called it from downstairs depositing him on a different floor. It happens to all of us. Don't worry about it, just be kinder to yourself and get someone else to do the ironing !
