Does your house basically look like a squat at weekends?

3 yo DD just carries armfuls of random crap from room to room and dumps it. Atm she has an aversion to the cushions staying on the sofa. There are toys all over the floor. DH is sitting in DD's 'jamas from last night, which have been left on the sofa. The whole place just looks like utter shite - I would be mortified if anyone dropped round unannounced.

Is it just us? During week is better as we're out of the house more. I just want to cry. Make me feel better and tell me we're not the only ones.

Just at weekends?

Looks like a stealth boast to me Wink

DitaVonCheese · 20/11/2011 15:07

Sometimes. I got fed up of it about an hour ago and did a quick tidy.. I do the main rooms each pm when dc in bed so I can sit in a vaguely nice environment with dh

I am MNing and looking at much the same. I will tidy up in a minute, honest Smile

SingingSands · 20/11/2011 15:14

Yes, it does.

Random crap everywhere. Glasses and mugs and plates everywhere.

Clothes draped over the banisters, the armchair, the floor.

Kids and DH playing on the Wii, I'm playing on Mumsnet.

sillymillyb · 20/11/2011 15:17

Only at weekend? I'd be well chuffed if my hovel was tidy during the week.... and my little one hasn't even arrived yet so I can't blame it on bump!

Sparklingbrook · 20/11/2011 15:18

Always. It's worse at weekends with everyone here getting everything out, and using every single glass and plate.

I have had a quick tidy up but the DSs come back from footy in half an hour then theres muddy kits and boots all over the place.

And for some reason at weekends every time I go up to the loo there is unflushed wee in in it. Angry

House looks awful all the time! There constantly seems to be food on the floor which drives me mad, and stray clothes just seem to breed Confused I genuinely don't know how it gets so bad so quickly.

piprabbit · 20/11/2011 15:20

Squat? There's no room for anyone to squat around here.

We seem to be re-enacting 'The Cat in the Hat'. DCs are Thing One and Thing Two (only less joyful and with added sibling hatred) and I seem to have the role of the goldfish.

Bohica · 20/11/2011 15:27

Downstairs doesn't look to bad as long as you can ignore the 3 loads of washing I am trying to dry in the dining room, the pile of folded clothes on the sofa, 3 massive half started jigsaws all over the living room floor after being abandoned by dd3 as her sisters have come home with friends so they are now all upstairs making banging noises so god knows what upstairs looks like!!

iWILLdothis · 20/11/2011 17:02

Glad it's not just my house like this. Dd (2) is the one to blame here....just like ur dd, carries random crap from room to room.

iWILLdothis · 20/11/2011 17:04

PS every day, not just weekends.

DelGirl · 20/11/2011 17:06

thanks for making me laugh piprabbit Grin had a crap day surrounded by dd's crap. Does. My. Head. In. Angry but feeling a fraction better now.

Familydilemma · 20/11/2011 20:04

Ha-we just took our three to the in laws to give our house a breather! Took the washing-felt like students Blush. Ours can be tidy one minute, then I turn my back on it and the pixies and goblins have messed it all up again!

Familydilemma · 20/11/2011 20:07

My kids do a special line in Putting Many, Many Random Unrelated Bits of C**p Into a Bag. My head boils with that trick. Combined nicely with ds's Emptying Boxes of Tiny Bits and Pieces Onto the Floor.

DitaVonCheese · 20/11/2011 21:26

Thanks all ('specially piprabbit Grin). Oh god yes, dilemma, random stuff in a bag. Then throwing a massive tantrum when I try to put it away again because it was important for something.

We have a rectangular runner on our hall floor and one of DD's favourite games is to pretend it's a car and pack it for the holidays, which involves basically getting everything in the house (I am not exaggerating) and piling it on the rug. Everything. On the plus side, it keeps her happy for ages and is relatively contained.

Anyone know a good way to explain to a toddler why sticks and leaves are for the outside? Confused

Thanks again (and both children sleeping, so house now relatively tidy )

No helpful suggestions beyond the catch all "because I say so" or its cousin "it's the law". Less helpful for a toddler and not to be found in the best parenting books. My own best post clutter busting lines is "hmm...I don't know where that's got to". True-but only when the dustbins have been emptied!
