.....to watch while I'm busy with newborn. To keep me sane. Please.
She has "We're going on a bear hunt" but it's only about 5mins long. (waaay too short!) Love it though. It's a classic and not trashy. Sorry if I sound weird but don't like the idea of Peppa Pig and Dora and these animated characters. What can I order on the likes of Amazon that's along the same lines of "we're going on a bear hunt?" Any recommendations please?? To save me time browsing through the rubbish online... tia

DS used to love the 'Best of Bod' dvd at that age - a programme from my childhood.

Sorry posted too early. Pingu? The Snowman?

The very hungry caterpillar is available on DVD, with what look like the same illustrations as the book - you can even get it in different languages, then it's educational Grin

You can also get the original style Peter Rabbit stories on DVD, my kids love them and I did have them when the older 2 were that age, although can't remember whether it held their attention then... There are some dark bits, like the fact Peter Rabbit's father was put in a pie by Mr McGregor, which could totally go over your dd's head or could worry her if her language and comprehension is very good and she is a sensitive type... I think most 2-3 year olds would not grasp that bit though. Classic and not trashy, could be scary though, depending on the child...

camberwick green it's brilliant

If it's films you're after my DD loves Flushed Away,Valiant and Toy Story.
I often buy DVDs from play.com as you can buy 2nd hand.

I know you say you can't bare the thought of Characters but my DD (2) is totally in love with Barney you can get 3 dvd boxset for under a fiver on amazon they last about 40 mins each per dvd just long enough for their short attention spans and for a newborns feed. I find that these have taught her alot she has the fairytales one at the minute and can retell all of Goldilocks, jack and the beanstalk etc and acts out the stories. I can't recommend them enough.

Although we have Disney dvds I find them inappropriate for their age as there are some scary scenes in most of them and she becomes distressed and they are too long to hold her attention.

Meg and Mog or maisie DVDs . There is also a good nursery rhymes one by Oxbridge baby (I know the name is yucky but it's simple animation and little stories and dd loves it).

Justonecheese · 15/11/2011 09:21

Another vote here for Meg and Mog and Maisie...somehow in my mid these are better than Peppa/Dora etc...!

Justonecheese · 15/11/2011 09:21

Sorry, somehow in my MIND, not mid!

Thanks for all the suggestions, they look good. Didn't know there were so many out there! Have checked out some on amazon but it doesn't state the runtime of the DVD? Looked at some on YouTube & they were only about 8mins... Does that mean the DVDs are also that short? Will def order some of the ones you say are 40 mins long also.

Maisy is imho the best for small children

Richard Scarry

Meg and Mog

Bagpuss

Mr Benn

ps: Dora is irritating, but Peppa Pig is sweet.

Octaviapink · 15/11/2011 13:34

The Toy Story trilogy is good - dd 2.7 loves the first two (we haven't let her watch the third one yet) - you can watch them alongside if you're bf-ing and explain what's going on, which makes it a nice interactive activity.

iWILLdothis · 24/11/2011 15:37

Maisy arrived today...love it! Just what we wanted. Will look into some of your other suggestions as Christmas presents. Thanks again.
