Baby changing mat recommendations

We bought the spotted John Lewis baby mat for when our dd was born. It has lasted 11 months but is now badly split and we need to get a new one.

I prefer buying things that will last - so has anyone got any recommendations for a slightly more robust mat for home use. We don't mind paying a little more!

Cheapest spotty one from mothercare. 20 months and still going strong. Might depend what you clean it with. I just use baby wipes.

we bought one from John Lewis to fit the cot top changer. Just plain white and not very special but DD is 18 month now and it is going strong. think it was about £10.

I had a really basic one for the changing table from IKEA. Inflatable sides!!! Indestructible that one seemed to be.

Use a towel! Simple to roll up, longlasting, easy to keep out of the way, easy to wash, doesn't split.

Have to agree with CogitoErgoSometimes about the one from Ikea, plus you can get towelling covers for it which can be thrown in the washing machine...fab!!

Do not get a beautiful soft one from mamas and papas with pretty ribbons and toys and jingly bits attached. Said accoutrements will soon be covered in poo and wee. -speaks from bitter experience-

Towelling covers? Now they tell me!

DitaVonCheese · 14/11/2011 14:36

I had £25 one from John Lewis but the cover shrunk and the sides spilt Hmm Now have cheapo inflatable one from Ikea which is fab but I usually just put a folded towel on top rather than the proper covers as they're easier to get on and off when DS wees/poos on it.

Can also recommend the Rabbit one with straps for the wriggly stage! (Expensive but got mine off ebay)

Just found an amazing site! Cannot believe it! You can design your own changing mats, any picture text etc!! Such a shame my kids aren't young enough for a changing mat now sad :(
