DD is due in 2weeks, we have 3yr old DS so apart from getting out his nuetral baby clothes, bought 2 packs of nappies, dug out the old breast pump, bouncy chair, moses basket etc...I'm sure there are more things I need for a new baby but can't think what!

Please help a heavily pregnant woman!

Breast pads, maternity pads, muslins, sore fanny cream, nipple cream, stock up freezer.

ImpYCelyn · 12/11/2011 16:05

Arnica, lavender oil for in the bath - nice on the stitches. Cotton wool for wiping bums.

DVDs of TV programmes - 30 minute programmes are ideal for getting through a night feed, without committing you to a film.

Stock the freezer.

Do your tax return before 31 Jan?

Does your 3yo need a school application done?

Sort Xmas, or give up on it (latter option could be quite attractive)

Book a cleaner for 2 months, as your Xmas present?

Something for the toddler from the new baby?

Ds loved the duplo he got from dd when he was born

ahedgehogis · 13/11/2011 20:34

Whoops she was born

ramblingmum · 13/11/2011 22:03

Do you have a sling/carrier for the baby. I found to made caring for 2 so much easier

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 14/11/2011 14:36

all the above we either have done or are on a list already (though thanks plupervert for SA reminder!)...although maybe I need to start doing this stuff rather than just making another list!

OK, so on my to-do list is the following (please add anything you think I might not have done!)

Pack in-case-of-hospital-transfer bag
Pack DS staying at Nana's bag
Buy MadMen and Six Feet Under on DVD
Buy breast pads (have disposable ones but hate them, need to buy resuable)
Buy Lansinoh
DO SA TAX RETURN!!!

bibbity what is sore fanny cream (yeah, I know what it's for) but what do you recommend? Had emergency c-section last time so didn't have that particular problem!

Am in same boat as OP and feeling very unprepared....

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 14/11/2011 14:43

hmmm good point. Last time I just poured jugs of lavender water over my bits when I weed and put tea tree oil on the maternity pads, but didn't have stitches so anything to help that kinda healing??

Hey Mousey I got some Hypercal for my birth induced grazes. I have to say, I don't know if it did anything but it falls under the category of sore fanny cream I reckon.

Arnica was brilliant for me.

Don't forget paracetamol and ibuprofen for the fucking awful after pains.

Labour snacks?

Sports bottles of water? My IM was squirting water into my open mouth between contractions. Heaven!

Fully charged camera - wish we'd taken more labour/birth pics.

Lansinoh

Good thread, I'm expecting dc3 after a five year gap and lately I've been thinking about what on earth I need to get sorted before it comes.

Hoping I don't need sore fanny cream though.

SenoritaViva · 14/11/2011 16:46

kelly can I start taking Ibuprofen then if I'm breastfeeding? Oh joy. I suppose so, they had me on wonderful drip feed painkillers after the c-section so I suppose so.

Ratso my theory is if you are prepared for a sore fanny you are less likely to get one. Sods law is that if you haven't prepared you definitely will....

KellyKettle · 14/11/2011 17:50

My midwife said so señorita & I was/am breastfeeding. I took some immediately post birth (was in more pain post birth than in labour).

I've become quite knowledgeable on post-birth fanny treatment. One thing I didn't have but wished for the minute DD2 was born - fanny ice packs. I ended up trying to squeeze one of those cool box blocks wrapped in a towel down my paper knickers. It doesn't work.

Condoms filled with water & frozen. Or pay £20 for perineal gel pads from Mothercare and get them in the freezer.

Iggly · 14/11/2011 20:19

Treat yourself to a spa day or treatment (not a bikini wax Wink).... I mean to do this - due 2 December with DS (2) already.

KellyKettle · 14/11/2011 20:49

Oh yes, I did that with DD1 Iggly wish I'd done it with DD2. A nice relaxing massage or pedicure. Enjoy!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 14/11/2011 21:47

well I had an amazing pregnancy massage today, going to book another for due date and reflexology to get baby out at 41 weeks.

I do have a (shhhh) brazilian booked for thursday....
