Really despairing of DS2 (22 months), he always pushing, kicking or biting other children, he does it to DS1 (5) too. I tried to offering sympathy to other hurt child and the naughty step and scolding him/ firm NO, but doesn't seem to work. I DREAD getting together with friends and baby groups as he is a nightmare. Generally he is loving and a good little boy but when it comes to other kids he is horrid!

How long does this last? I don't want him to become the little bully that other kids/ mums shun...HELP!

Thanks if anyone can offer any tips for how to deal with this.

I think what you'll have to do is make it clear before any encounter with other children that if he starts being naughty and throwing his weight about, he's going straight home even if the playgroup or the visit with friends hasn't finished. Praise when he's kind and cooperative, of course. Remove him totally and permanently from the fun when he's not.... it's not fair on the other children otherwise.

Thanks cogito, I think I need to definitely be firm. I don't want him to become the brat that everyone avoids, know that's a bit overreactive but it does have me worried.

I agree. Consistency and something he understands. "If you bite or hit we go home" no messing.

Hard on you but worth it in the long run. I'm sure he'll sort it out soon.

Thanks TheSkiingGardener, it is very hard work at the moment.

I only have DS (17 months) but he goes through phases. I remember saying to DH "pick him up and hold him because I have NO idea what to do next!"

So far being consistent has works, he goes through a few weeks of pushing every boundary going and then sorts it out. It is hard though, and infuriating, and exasperating.....

Plenty of Wine once they're in bed usually helps me I find.

That's true, thanks TheSkiingGardener
