Just looking for ideas really, of things that they REALLY loved. I know they don't really know it's their birthday and I know they like the boxes, but any ideas for imaginative gifts would be fab'...

I've bought my DS a tractor/ trailer and farm house from John Lewis. It's got lots of animals you push down on to hear the noise they make and the tractor is self propelling when you push a button. I am so excited
about playing my DS playing with it.

It only cost £30 so i'm also putting some money into his trust fund because he's got so many aunts, uncles and cousins who will also spoil him.

I have got my DD who is 1 in January a little people fairytale castle, and a fisher price garage with cars.

FairyArmadillo · 11/11/2011 15:12

ELC Whizz Around Garage. DS is now 3 and still plays with it. Currently being used as a playground for his ZhuZhu pets.

Fish and fishtank (he has enough toys). He loves it, often buys me a few minutes when cooking or on the phone.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/11/2011 14:29

We got DD a toy glockenspiel (which she still takes out and bangs occasionally - now 21.5 mo)

Probably her fave present was the wooden push along trolley full of bricks. She still plays with that a lot in various ways.

Books!!! Brilliant value from those, they get read and requested over and over again....

ShowOfHands · 12/11/2011 14:32

New bras for her to look at.

And a trike.

fufflebum · 12/11/2011 14:37

trike (DC1) and indoor scoot along bike (DC2)

Voidka · 12/11/2011 14:45

DS1 - Little Tikes car - we still have it so its lasted 10 years.
DS2 - ELC Garage and a Baby Tad - both still used.
DD - Wheely Bug - all the DC's are a bit big for it now but it does get used for DD's teddies.

Lots of cheap toy cars that were on offer at local supermarket, a new outfit to wear on his birthday ( tradition my mum did with us Smile), his first mickey DVD ( to leave at my mums as she doesn't have sky and it gives half an hour peace , but he lived opening the helium balloon my sis sent that came in a box! I had also filled the living room with balloons after he had gone to bed night before and a couple of board books,, I didn't spend much overall but I tried to make him know it was a special day , and it was !

Mibby · 12/11/2011 14:54

A couple of the PlaySkool ball popper toys, a snowsuit, new dress and a wooden trolley with bricks. DD is 1 on Tuesday so I need to get it all wrapped ASAP :)

Noopypappy · 12/11/2011 17:03

Trike. Loves it and it will last for years.

MamaTups · 12/11/2011 19:07

we bought DD the hardback version 'complete works of Winnie-The-Pooh' by AA Milne, then wrote in the front just how much she has meant to us over the past year and how she will enjoy these stories into adulthood....x

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/11/2011 20:57

That's lovely, MamaTups Smile

maxpower · 12/11/2011 20:59

For DD, a few clothes that she needed. We put money in her CTF instead.

For DS, he's getting a toy and we'll put some money in his CTF.

InTheZenGarden · 12/11/2011 21:16

Sorry, ShowOfHands ..... bras??

storminateacup10 · 12/11/2011 21:19

a push-along wooden cart with blocks (she was desperately trying to walk at the time).
my sister got her the best though - a hand made music box shaped like a small puppet show stage - complete with 2 trapeze artists who whirl through the air inside, when you wind up the key. it's magical - when she was 1 we wound it up for her and watched her little face light up with wonder at the figures. now she's 3.5 she's able to do it herself, though it is fragile and precious so not a toy you would have knocking around the floor.
it sits on a shelf in her room and is also very decorative. i think my sis bought it from a very old, traditional toy shop in the City.

Yama · 12/11/2011 21:21

Dd - nothing.

Ds - nothing.

They got enough from family.

storminateacup10 · 12/11/2011 21:23

thought of another - a friend of mine bought his niece and nephew (twins) a very special bottle of aged port each for their 1st birthday. sounds bizarre, but he wrote them each a lovely card, explaining how much he loved old port and hoping that one day they'd enjoy this too - or else they could always sell it on if they weren't into that. made me smile as it was a present looking forward to their futures as young adults...and very typical of the kind of fun guy he is too.

ShowOfHands · 12/11/2011 22:28

Yes new bras as in she still preferred bf above all else and spent an inordinate amount of time doing it. Toys rather a waste.

MerryMarigold · 12/11/2011 22:30

I got him a ball which you could blow up with a straw. There was one at the baby music group we went to and he just loved it. It was very light, sort of like a strong balloon. Best prezzie ever!

toddlerama · 12/11/2011 22:32

I got the girls little backpacks which were like an animal soft toy which had a long 'tail' like a lead. They both loved them and at 3, DD2 will still voluntarily wear hers if we are somewhere crowded.

Pascha · 12/11/2011 22:35

Bras Grin I guess my son will be getting those for Christmas.

circlehead · 12/11/2011 22:46

I got my DS a lovely big box with cartoon animal drawings all over it, and put in a few bits from his first year (newborn vest, photos etc). Oh and wrote a card detailing what he was like at 1 year old, and am going to do that every year. I add little things as and when and will probably give it to him on his 18th.

I knew he would, and will continue to get, toys etc from friends/relatives so wanted to do something really personal between me and him :)
