Sleep, 8 month old

Apologies if this has been done to death! My ds is almost 8 months, and still doesn't sleep through. He naps approx 2 hours during the day, and goes to bed around 7pm. He has a bottle at 11pm, then wakes in the night for another feed (5oz at 11, about the same during the night). Lately he is waking up again around 6am and refusing to go back to sleep, then dozes off again around 9am. He is eating 3 meals a day, and has 2/3 bottles of milk during the day, he's always been 91st centile so I know he eats a lot for his age. I'm just desperate for a full night's sleep! Any suggestions to get him sleeping through, and getting him to sleep a bit later in the morning? Sorry for waffling on!

If you want him to drop the 11pm milk, try a late stodgy supper after bathtime... warm milk plus a chopped banana used to zonk out my baby that age. Otherwise, go to bed earlier yourself so that the 6am starts don't kill you. I'm the owner of an early-bird myself... 11yo and still can't sleep past 7am :) Good luck

Try giving him some porridge for supper or late tea as this may fill him up for longer!

Thanks both of you, only problem is he only has his tea around 6pm as he tends to get very sleepy after it so had to move it later (used to feed him around 5pm). Would you suggest later bedtime to try and get him to have supper as well?

I used to dream feed my dd, and she always used to wake at about 3 or 4, One day I just dropped it and she slept through. I did read that the late/dream feed starts up their metabolism/digestion and makes them hungry sooner.

Does he have a bottle before bed?

DS 11m has dropped all his night feeds but still wakes up at least three times a night, and for good at 4.45ish. I feel your pain.

He has a bottle at bedtime (not to fall asleep with so doesn't need it to settle). I may try dropping the 11pm feed and see if that helps, I can see how it would kickstart his metabolism. If he wakes for it anyway (sometimes does, sometimes we wake him for it) should I just try and settle him without a bottle? I've tried to do this when he wakes in the night and he settles, but just keeps waking roughly every 30 mins until I feed him!

its worth a try dropping the 11pm feed and seeing what happens. Do it on a day that you arent needed to be useful the next day just incase.

You could try watering down his night time feed and gradually to giving him just water. If he is eating enough during the day he shouldn't in theory be hungry at night, but they often get into the habit of eating/wanting food. If they know they are only going to get water they don't bother waking for a feed.
