2 month old baby - what should I put on his feet??

Hi everyone. My baby's 2 months old and his legs have just started dangling out of my Ergo carrier. He has socks on for now, but when it gets colder (or indeed now) I should really aim to protect his feet that bit more. Please tell me what I should get. Shoes? If so, which ones...? Sorry, I'm a bit clueless about this. Thanks.

Booties?

Haribolicious · 05/11/2011 07:03

Yes, booties or can you get a cover for your carrier? I got one for my baby bjorn....it's a bit like a cosy toes and keeps baby warm & snug when it gets cold! Alternatively, do you have a blanket long/large enough to wrap around baby and just stuff inside carrier straps to keep secure? The other 'method' I used was to wear DH's coat and zip baby inside....or at least his bottom half! Just be careful of overheating.

Tights, h and m or gap do boy colours

I've just bought some slippers for my DD from Padraig Cottage, they feel lovely and cosy and haven't come off her feet yet.

Put him in one of the all in one teddy suits over his babygrow - like the ones they sell in babygap. They have feet in them.

yummumto3girls · 05/11/2011 23:14

All in one snowsuit, in my opinion the only way to keep a young baby snug during winter. They sell them everywhere, mothercare, next, Jo Jo maman....

Grumpla · 05/11/2011 23:21

A snowsuit would be way too hot in a sling! Unless you are planning on wearing sling and baby over your own coat (I alway found that pretty uncomfortable.)

I used to dress DS in an all-in-one under trousers / long sleeve top, with long socks over that. Or you could add those baby legwarmer things? Pop a hat on and add a couple of scarves / shawl type things for the really bitter weather. Wrap them over sling and tuck into your coat. As long as you are toasty warm yourself and not separated from baby by too many layers of clothing your body heat will keep him warm too - an extra large coat / poncho which you can both fit into is ideal but not essential.

For back carries I had a really big, thick, stretchy shawl type cardigan from Primark that did brilliantly, anything big and unstructured should work.

All in one fleecy thing, snowsuit or tights and socks if need
Shoes are later Smile

BertieBotts · 05/11/2011 23:22

The little soft leather shoes from www.snugglefeet.com (similar to starchild etc but much cheaper)

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/11/2011 23:24

tights under trousers, or socks with legwarmers over.

BertieBotts · 05/11/2011 23:24

Although I did just do up my coat over both of us when carrying DS in the sling at that age. Just carried on using the coat I'd had while pregnant.

BeeBopBunny · 06/11/2011 10:12

I'd second a snowsuit - lovely and snug.

Iggly · 07/11/2011 14:05

No to a snowsuit in a sling. DS used to go mental as he got hot.

I bought some pram shoes or used thick socks.

clarabella18 · 07/11/2011 19:45

Another no to a snow suit whilst in the sling. A nice wooly jumper trousers, socks and baby legwarmers and fasten the bottom if your coat over the two of you if it's still a bit parky.

bigkidsdidit · 07/11/2011 19:52

I bought some lovely knee length thermal socks for DS (10mo) in M&S a while ago and layer them with thick trousers for my sling. Then my coat loosely around.

Nonsensical · 07/11/2011 20:05

I have had exactly the same dilemma and a friend suggested leg warmers - genius! I got some cheap ones on eBay - just search for baby legwarmers - for about £2 or there are various others for around £6. It has totally solved the problem, I just put them on over my son's feet and legs when going out in the sling and take them off when we are indoors. They are brilliant...

boognish · 15/11/2011 00:01

I second Grumpia, Iggly and Clarabella. Overheating is easier than you think. I once overwrapped my baby and fortunately he woke up crying, sweat pouring off his head and boiling to the touch. I ripped everything off straight away but will never forget the experience.

Woolly tights/babygro under trousers plus socks/shoo shoos.
