Pocket money - how much for a 10yr old DS

Never given him pocket money before, he'll be 11 in March. He's started to want to buy CD's and comics (Simpsons one is 1.99). DH says £5 per week but I think that's too much. He will be expected to wash (don't laugh) and keep his room nicely for the pocket money and any other jobs he does he will get paid separately for. I was thinking perhaps £2 per week, what do you think?

At age 11, gave DS1 and DD £15 a month, paid into a bank account. Has to pay for CDs, phone (later), youth club. One saves for months, the other spends, spends, spends, but it is harder to fritter it away if they have to go to the cashpoint to withdraw.

My DS gets £2.50 pw, but also gets Cubs, guitar lessons, swimming & diving lessons so actually he does very well.

My DD gets £20pm (+ flute lesson & Duke of Edinburgh subscriptions) and some of her friends get £50-60pm! (most get £10pw).

We do the same as Sherbert...£15 a month into bank account and he has a cash card to withdraw money as he wants. DS1 saves a lot but knows money is there if he wants it. IMO it is teaching him to be responsible with his own money. We talk about the difference between wanting and needing stuff and it seems to work!!!

Dd (11) gets £10 a month and is expected to keep her room tidy, put money on her phone and pay her way if she goes to town.

We pay for Guides, swimming, rock climbing.

She also does jobs round the house anyway - no extra money for that. That's just part of being a family, imo.

Youe sugestion of £2 pounds a week sounds reasonable.DD3 aged 13 gets £10pm.She uses this for going out with her friends and paying for little things she wants. She gets a lot of birthday and christmas money from varios relatives so she uses that during the year. She also buys christmas presents for everyone. O pay fo guides, drama club and any school trips.
DD2 aged £16 gets£25 (goes up to £30 in Jan)a month , but she has to buy her own clothes.
