I always clear the kids room painfully making sure no playmobil heads/rabbits/hats gets sucked up the hoover never to be seen again, tonight I wondered, is it just me?...Does the rest of the world just suck them up happy that the floors clean?!!!!!!

Depends - if they are part of a set then yes I do save them. If they were some freebie from Mcdees for instance then NO!

WideWebWitch · 28/12/2005 21:07

Suck em up. I just cannot be arsed to pick them up and there's NO toy important enough to go through the Hoover bag for.

Caligyulea · 28/12/2005 21:08

Funny you should ask - I've instituted a new reign of terror, in which any toy left on the floor at the end of the day when Mummy cleans up gets put in the cellar, to return at an arbitrary date and time specified by Mummy.

This is having emptied most of the toys into the cellar, so that the kids have only one box of toys each between them plus a Star Wars paraphanalia box and the new christmas buggy. So this time, when the toys go missing, they may actually notice and get the message that if they want them to still be there the next day, they need to pick them off the floor and put them into their (now named) toy boxes.

Less of a draconian solution than vacuuming them all up or throwing them away, which is what I feel like doing!

if they don't pick stuff up within a certain time limit, whether it be money or toys, it's sucked up, if it's too big it goes in the bin.

Pinotmum · 28/12/2005 21:10

I get the hoover out and shout a warning before turning it on "pick 'em up or they're gonnas", the children move like wildfire picking up everything that's precious. What is left behind is SUCKED to it's death!

When I am hoovering and see small toys I pick them up but if I don't see them I don't and won't empty the hoover bag for them. Once hoovered up one of DH's socks, told him it was tough and it should have been in the washing basket!

I do have a friend who goes through the hoover bag and retrieves little bits and pieces of her kids toys.

Kids clean their own rooms, they have their own hoover. They are 13, 11, 8 and 5 so old enough to pick up toys.

I suck them up happy that I managed to get rid of a few more toys without being noticed!

Salsa · 29/12/2005 13:44

I carefully pick everything up before hoovering. I get quite upset if I hoover something of theirs by mistake. I wouldn't like somebody to hoover my things up.

MrsSpoon · 29/12/2005 14:24

DH let our DSs hoover their own rooms one day, in all his wisdom he figured they had reached the age of responsibility, 3 and 6. When I found them they were giggling hillariously and sucked a huge round egg in the middle of each of their foreheads, of course this was the day before a party so they looked wonderful.

poppyknot · 29/12/2005 14:30

Suck them up unless it's a wee rubbery monster in which case it gets stuck and causes the dyson to emit a very worrying burning smell.

Dd2 stiil recalls this incident and will recount it with great seriousness every time the noo noo emerges.

Now paranoid as we have got Polly pocket et al. Her shoes are TINY and would not even make a warning clatter as they disaapear. Have therefore hidden the smallest bits and will prbably let DDs play with them when thety are about 15.........
