I have an 8 week old baby, and am just about to start some freelance work, just an hour or two a week. However this involves getting me and the baby out of the house for an exact time. I bf on demand, and we have absolutely no routine, so my question is if you've got to go somewhere and you cannot be late, how do you manage to get there on time?! It's filling me with horror just thinking about it!

Start very very early! Grin

More seriously, pack everything you can pack the night before. Decide what you and baby are going to wear the night before. In your case (at 8 weeks post partum) check you still fit said clothes.

Leave buckets of time so that when baby poos/vomits/whatevers just as you are about to leave, that's fine because you still have 15/20 mins in hand.

Remember that the first time is the hardest! And in a little while you'll have it cracked and wonder why you were ever bothered!

You have to plan to be early, and be ready to hang around at destination if necessary.

So you need to set an arrival time that is at least the duration of a feed/change/clean up ahead of the time you need to be there (plus an extra ten minutes or so), so if you have to stop you have enough time to attend to your DC's needs and still be there on time without panic and stress.

If you are working for only an hour or two, what would you do if a feed is needed then?

I've a two week old and a 3 year old and have the school run to do from Monday, I'm pondering this issue quite intently myself!

I had a bag for DS that was always ready to go.

Feed wise, I'd make a judgement and if it was working half hour of feed (he was every 2 hours), I'd offer a top up to keep him going. I'd have a think about whether I'd need to feed when out (usually once there) and find somewhere suitable.

Getting myself ready - I always had a shower the night before or in the morning when dh was there and get dressed. Take snacks in case you've not eaten!

Always aim to be out 30 mins before you actually have to!

Get everything ready the night before so the only uncertainties are when baby will feed or need changing.
