Where are all the nice clothes...?

DD needs some new clothes size 18-24 months. Usually I scour the Next catalogue and am sorted plus a few t-shirts from adsa. Have repeatedly searched Next, Sainsburys, Vert b whateveritscalled, adsa and tesco and can't find anything I like! DSis has suggested Matalan and from looking online I can see a few bits I like but please can anyone make some more suggestions. I live in Lancaster so not much choice of shop but can do shopping online and am off to a bigger town at the weekend so can have a look. I am looking for quite a girly style, but none of this tutu business as she is not a dancer she is a chubby bundle of gorgeousness who loves nothing more than jumping around in the mud in her wellies.... Having said that her fav outfit is a fairy dress!! TIA

Boden have some lovely lovely stuff, but its soooo expensive. I buy boden stuff on ebay. And how about Jojo Maman Bebe. www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk.

My dd is a chubby bundle of gorgeousness too and these always fit well.

Also, Frugi.

Clandy · 26/10/2011 11:07

Also (yes I do have a bit of a shopping addiction) Marks and Spencers Indigo range are sometimes very nice and not too pricey.

LemonDifficult · 26/10/2011 13:54

H&M

I think M&S have got a great range this year, similar colours to boden but masses cheaper. Even the basics this year were quite bright.

WhoahThereCrazyHorse · 26/10/2011 15:24

Just been to next and it was awful! Gap, on the other hand had some really good stuff and loads of offers on - worth a look!

Rhubarbgarden · 26/10/2011 17:48

M&S and Boots (bigger branches - don't think they all stock baby clothes)

littleomar · 26/10/2011 17:49

Hennes

Agree: Boots, M&S, Blue Zoo at Debenhams, Gap (often have good sales).

Don't like Next or H&M.

Got lovely denim dungarees at M&S (Indigo range) - they are for a boy but I preferred them because they don't have naff flowers embroidered on them. I also got packs of lovely brightly coloured vests from there.

I have found nice things in Tesco and Asda but you have to really search through the sickly pink!

Ebay - each shop will only have a few outfits each season and I was surprised by how few of them I liked. Ebay has a much wider range as it is effectively from a number of seasons. Some brands are still pretty expensive on ebay, but I have got some great John Lewis clothes for DD from ebay and you can search by size etc. The only thing I wouldn't really want is second hand tights and it is quite hard to find decent baby tights to go with all the little outfits.

BsshBossh · 28/10/2011 21:17

We use Boden, Joules and American Apparel and Gap.

Staverton · 28/10/2011 21:19

Jojomamanbebe (10% discount online with MN code)
John Lewis
Gap
Boden

If too expensive try searching for these on eBay

kiwidreamer · 28/10/2011 21:26

I've always liked Pumpkin Patch, they have pretty good online specials too, I never buy at full price / current season - toddlers do not need to be seen in the latest seasons gear IMO!!!

I tend to use ebay. Browse to the baby clothes section, then use the criteria on the left (size, gender etc) and click "choose more" on these. You can then specify or exclude certain brands, types of clothing, colours, materials etc. Leave the "unspecified" box unticked if you want more streamlined results, but tick it if you're happy to search through a lot (and I mean a LOT) more crap for a bargain.

Also try searching a particular brand, or searching something like "rainbow" or "flower" or "toadstool" or whatever design you want, with the only filter as the age/size and sex. Mini Mode for example had lovely clothes for girls and boys but they're gone now, but plenty on ebay.

Add everything you like to your watch list, until you get bored. Then sort watch list by seller ID and go through and see what each seller has as well as the ones you're already watching. Any you like, add to list as well. Then go through the watch list, weed out anything you're watching which is the only thing that seller has (unless you REALLY like it) and anything you've looked at among all the rest and thought "Meh" and anything above your maximum price per item. As a rule of thumb on ebay I don't pay more than £4 for a t-shirt or top, and no more than £8 for a pair of trousers or a jumper/cardigan/jacket type thing. But your limits will have to be higher if you want Boden stuff - I rarely if ever win this at these prices.

Remember to factor postage cost into this. The reason you are looking at getting lots of stuff from each seller is to cut down on postage, but not all sellers combine postage and if they do, not all of them take a decent amount off. So for example if I was looking at a t shirt which had £2 postage I'd only bid up to £2. This stops you getting carried away, though it's still easy to spend a lot! Just recently I spent over £50 on clothes for DS but realistically he's got most of a wardrobe for the next year or so there.

Keep stuff in your watch list and don't make bids until there is a day or so left. Or if you know you're going to be away from the computer or unlikely to check it for a couple of days then that far in advance is okay. Be aware if you're bidding on quite well-liked or expensive brands (Boden, designer labels, some Next stuff, some Gap) you can get into a bidding war if you bid too early.

breatheslowly · 28/10/2011 22:06

You can also use a sniper service like Gixen.com to do your ebay bidding for you so that you don't bid early.

BertieBotts · 28/10/2011 22:32

No! Snipers are cheating and take all the fun out of it!

Clandy · 28/10/2011 22:48

Wow Bertie you sound like a seasoned pro at eBay buying Grin I shall take your advice and grab dd some bargins!
