I'm being a bit thick but can't decide whether I need to be getting DD a winter wardrobe? I can't see that she's going to need it as it's not like she'll be spending any time outside really when its cold? Or have I got it the wrong way round and I should be wrapping her up and carrying on as normal - she could theoretically play in the garden as we have astroturf which dries really quickly...

What do others do with crawling babies?

She's my first - as if you couldn't tell from the incredibly dense question!

Chances are she won't be just crawling long! You will go stark mad if you don't get out, even if chilly and damp, all winter. Buy a snow suit, preferably one with removeable feet and attached mittens then layer over tights, leggings, long sleeved vest and high neck top., add a fleece if very chilly and hat.

Yes get baby out, babies need fresh air even in the winter. I have just bought mine (9 mths) a snowsuit. He loves going to the park to watch the ducks and loves a little push on the swings i will still be going in the cold weather just will wrap him up first and he will be fine.

I'd get a fleece lined, waterproof all in one. They last ages and are great when they are learning to walk, as baby is warm and dry so the sitting down on the grass in the park when a particular leaf needs thorough investigation is no problem.
Keeps mine warm in the pram too when they decided blankets are no longer acceptable Hmm

Get her one of these and carry on as you were. They are massive, so will last all winter, and you won't mind if she goes crawling round in the wet.

It's not a dense question - crawling babies in winter are a pita. If its your second child, you just have to accept the muddy knees and soggy feet (as you'll probably have forgotten to bring the rain suit out anyway!). As it is, you're probably not forced to spend every afternoon at the park so you'll be fine!

milletts do waterproof all in ones for about £15 which you can layer over warm clothes. the sizes aren't generous though so go up one from what you think you might need.

MagnumIcecreamAddict · 25/10/2011 15:18

Togz all in one warm and dry!! These are great suits, really good quality - just bought one for my 16mo DS and it keeps him really warm (generous sized though so don't go too big)

And carry on with all the outdoor stuff.

SuckItAndSee · 25/10/2011 15:21

i've just bought dd1 some waterproof dungarees. I would recommend that seller as the stuff came quickly.
they are mahoosive - i sized up but there was no need to do so.

prolificwillybreeder · 25/10/2011 15:36

I need to get DS1 a new one. Has anyone tried the JoJo Maman Bebe ones? I have a voucher you see.

MrsDobalina · 25/10/2011 15:42

If you find the perfect things to put on crawling babies feet let me know please!! Have waterproof all in one and fleece for underneath but am already bored of soggy socks and soft shoes and it's not even winter yet...

lukewarmmama · 25/10/2011 19:45

Prolific - we've got some JoJo waterproof dungarees and trousers for our two. They are fine, good quality and a decent size as well. Think there's a money off code on here in the discounts bit somewhere.

lukewarmmama · 25/10/2011 19:54

MrsDobalina - would something like this be any good? They were great on holiday, but I think they might be waterproof too. Or snow booty type things.

MagnumIcecreamAddict · 25/10/2011 20:21

MrsDobalina - maybe try these? I looked at them but my little one is walking so no good for him.

myhandslooksoold · 25/10/2011 20:39

I loved the Togz waterproof all in ones at this stage up to 2 years. You can layer warm clothes underneath. I don't know about shoes though. Well worth getting something to go on top of clothes though. My 15 month old had a great play in a wet park today in hers. But tell me about astroturf in your garden though- my lawn is quite small and I've been thinking about it.

WhoahThereCrazyHorse · 25/10/2011 20:55

Oooh, the astroturf - I love it! We've got a small and odd-shaped area at the back which used to be slate stones - v un-child-friendly. The astroturf has been a revelation - doesn't look far off the real thing, is soft enough for DD to crawl on, and as I said above it dries really quickly so when the weather was changeable over the summer she could still be out and rolling around about half an hour after any rain! Expensive but totally worth it, I would recommend!

Thank you!

MrsDobalina · 25/10/2011 22:40

Thanks all! (and am now wondering if DH would think I'm crazy if he came home to find the balcony astroturfed Grin)

ramblingmum · 26/10/2011 20:37

For keeping feet dry I found the Togz booties realy good for crawling. Once she started walking I still used then, she would wear wellies for walking but I would swap her back into the booties for carring as they are warmer and saved getting mud all over my coat. www.waterproofworld.co.uk/togz.htm#Booties
