11yo son goes to bed at 9pm weekdays and 10pm holidays and weekends. 10pm on a weekday is too late IMO, they would get too little sleep and you would have less MN/Wine time Grin

Tortoiseinadarkspell · 13/10/2011 01:27

At that age mine was 8.30 bed and lights out at 9. At 13 it was 9 and lights out at 10, I think we dropped the 'lights out' bit after 14 but I still had to be in bedroom and quiet by 9.30pm. For one thing, my mum didn't want me watching any TV after 9pm because it tends to be 15+ rating, and for another she wanted some evening to herself.

10.15 is too late for an 11 year old. A schoolchild that age still needs 9-10 hours a night, what time is she getting up?

10.15 sounds way too late. DD (11) is in bed at 8.30, like Tortoise - we know some of her friends go a bit later but she needs the sleep.

Does your DD get herself up & ready in the mornings or is she always tired?

CogitoErgoSometimes · 13/10/2011 07:37

11yo need a good 10 hours sleep - especially school nights. If she's in bed by 9pm let her read a book for a short time to wind down perhaps.

thanks for advice will stick to 9pm school nights and 10pm weekends im sure she will try to debate it!!

She'll probably tell you that all her friends stay up till that time.

Cos obviously they do...

I have already had that line "but mum all my mates stay up" dont even get me going on the twilight movies that ALL her friends are allowed to watch!

we got a 15 minute extention on bed times school year
when I was 11 lights off at 8.30, 12 was 8.45, 13 was 9pm, etc.

BUT I was at boarding school so not an average family unit

Got her to go to bed by 9pm tonight then 10mins later she needed a drink, then the loo, then a extra blanket and even now is still up.

When DD did that I told her that for every minute she was late to bed she'd be a minute early to bed the next night. Do you think that would work?

Staverton · 14/10/2011 09:26

What time does she wake up? Is she tired in the day/ difficult to get out of bed in morning?
It might take a while to get used to going to bed earlier, and change her body clock

onwardandupwards · 14/10/2011 17:16

she gets up at 7am usually in a bad mood. will try the losing time the next night. last night dd stayed up till 11.45pm (think it was her version of a protest!)
