Lion King - At what age and when is it too much? Advice please!

Our 18 month old has just discovered the Lion King DVD. She is obsessed by it, and wants it on several times a day every day. We're currently restricting it to the main songs once a day (about 30 mins viewing). Is this too much? Are we mean to restrict it?

Also I've been avoiding the more "violent bits" (e.g. the end where the lion and hyenas fight) Am I being a neurotic over protective parent? (DH lets her watch most of it but then worries about it afterwards!)

Any advice on this much appreciated...

Hi babygibbon - just spotted this and wanted to share my experience.

DS was about 18mths when DH got him the Lion King and watched it all the way through the first time.

I remembered a friends grand-daughter who was a lot older 3yrs maybe being really upset when her Daddy went to work as she was scared he wasn't coming home after watching the Lion King so I have also restricted it to the songs only.

Having said that DS got a little bit agitated when the canyon bit started several weeks after the first time he watched it all, so definately just stick to the songs - he's 2.5ys now.

He would also watch it all day given half a chance.

Plus I get fed up with it more than once a day

Oh i remember when my boy had this going for fox and the hound and it would make him cry at end so i wouldnt let him watch end then he would cry cos he missed it!
It is a no win situation I am sure in time they will tire of it.
P.s i am 30 something i love lion king there is no hope.

My three year old loves all three of them, my 14 month old sees them too. I don't think she pays much attention to the film itself though, just dances to the songs.

I think that at 18 months the sad bit of the story would pass her by. I think another year before it would be a real issue. But then of course if she is used to watching it you can then hardly stop her can you.

Actually I think Lion King is a relatively gentle introduction to the idea of death. I have bought DS Bambi for Christmas and wonder how he will react to this. He is nearly 5 though.

I used to laugh hysterically at the sad part (2019) in the cinema (first time watching then) where Simba cried
