Blue toilet water??

My DH has put a blue toilet block in the toilet as he thinks coloured water will help DD1(2.5yrs) to use the toilet. She's still in naps and shows very little if no interest in the whole toilet training thing.

DH says he's taking a behaviourist approach, apparently he recently read some research where they did this with children with varying learning disabilities. BTW he's a learning disability registered nurse.

DD1 does not have LD. Not convinced but DH says it's to do with association and therefore we should differentiate between toilet and tap water.

Anyone else tried this?

The trouble with taking a behaviourist approach is that in a child without any SN, toilet learning isn't really a behavioural issue - it's a physical issue, and can sometimes be an emotional one, but it's not behavioural and it's not something that children can really learn.

Nothing will help if she's not ready - and if she's not interested then she's probably not ready.

Hmm, not sure myself. My immediate thought was that not every toilet she'll come across is going to have blue water. What are you going to do if she won't go in Debenhams because the water isn't blue? Nip out and get a Bloo Loo block?!

Loads of my friends children are the same age as yours and are still in nappies. They all ask me how I did it with dd as she isn't, but she just showed an interest in her potty and going to the loo and theirs don't yet. It's just the way it is.

We put a blue toilet block in the toilet in the hope that DS wouldn't stick DD's cup in it and drink from it (which we caught him doing about 3 months ago!!!!!!!)

So far it seems to have worked!!!!!!!!

My friend came over with her DD yesterday - exactly the same age as my DS - has started using the toilet to wee.

My DS can't even say wee!!!!!!!!!

They're all ready at different times!!!!!!

My daughter refused to use the loo at nursery because it had blue water, luckily, they were happy to take the blue block out and run a toilet duck round it in the evening instead!
