Knakered what exactly do you mean? Independent school? £6000 per year for year 2 (age 6). Babysitters about £4 per hour. What else?

I'd really recommend setting up a savings account of some sort to pay for university costs in the future. We're currently funding our second child at uni and have two more (hopefully!!) to pay for. It's an expensive pastime, at £500 minimum a month.

Chairmum & RobinW have covered most of the areas I'd mention. I have an eleven year old and I have to say once at school outgoings seem to increase drastically, once at secondary school outgoings have increased unbelievably... Days out, holidays, clubs/hobbies, clothes, school uniform for a child constantly growing, more food,
birthdays,... the list is endless, but the cost I think people often forget is, if they work, holiday childcare.... don't think you can pocket that money quite yet....sorry!
