Some plastic pegs he found in my pants drawer (don't ask)

A set of 6 cars he got for Christmas last year from a distant auntie of Dp's, came from a Poundshop at a guess, but They Are Loved.

his clothes are festooned with pegs, and he is attempting to stick them on the wheels of his beloved cars.

his new favourite is my old filofax! had mega tantrum the toher night because i didn't let him have it in hte bath

falalaala · 16/12/2005 14:15

"princess" (sleeping beauty on what looks like a coffin).
bunny (soft toy)
mog (soft toy)
lots of other children at nursery

colditz · 16/12/2005 14:15

He is now making the pegs kiss each other, with huge "Mwah!" noises.

I find him beautifully bewildering at times......

Lol, my ds (just 2) has a hairdryer fettish at the moment and tried to smear himself in lipstick the other day - I think my dh is getting worried LOL

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 16/12/2005 14:37

A pink elephant. It's about, oh, so big - and it's her friend. Apparently I trode on it earlier, but it didn't mind because she kissed it better and it had some bread for its lunch.

Welcome to Planet DD.

Sieve and a vegetable steamer (the old-fashioned sort that you put in a saucepan not a plug-in one) - it folds out like a flower so hes fascinated by it.

walkinginawelshmumwonderland · 16/12/2005 15:40

This morning my 6 month old mostly played with a red bra - quite a nice one though

amanada · 16/12/2005 16:41

My DS has been playing with a new placemat with santas on it we got from M&S. He had it in the bath last night, over his face this morning and tried to take it to nursery as well.

Really difficult trying to give bottle to small child with placemat on face.....

FastasleepInAManger · 16/12/2005 16:43

Mine's played with a big black bucket, a brush from a dustpan and brush, various pots, the pasta he eptied all over the floor... and some cars..

He's a sophisticated fella!

FastasleepInAManger · 16/12/2005 16:45

Oh and his teddy, which needs a feed when DD does, food when DS does, juice, burping, changing and singing to... he's very particular for a 21 month old and wanders around going 'mama - TEDDY!!...JUICE, TEDDY.... MAMA!'

TheFish · 16/12/2005 16:50

puzzles

all day every day

PantomimEDAMe · 16/12/2005 16:54

Welsh snap (present from his aunt). He's doing very well at knowing a pili pala is the Welsh for butterfly! And running round and round all the trees we passed on the way to the shop... and taking baubles off the Christma tree. Unwrapping the ones that are present-shaped... he was disappointed to discover they really are decorations and only contain polystyrene. Serves him right for trying to open presents before Christmas!

AnnieSG · 16/12/2005 17:21

Colditz, can I just say how lovely I found 'beautifully bewildering'. V nicely put!

EliBeentoSantasGrotto · 16/12/2005 17:41

She's (2 next week) being a bird, in a 'nest' made of sofa cushions. Bird was allowed its afternoon tea in its nest, which is now rather crumby...

bobbybobbobbingalong · 16/12/2005 17:47

I packet of streamer. They were seatbelts, electrical cords, machines, telephones. Amazing fun for a few pence.

harpsiheraldangelssing · 16/12/2005 20:56

after reading this thread I have to ask
so why do we buy toys....

hoXMASchick · 16/12/2005 20:59

bundle's dd2

baublerock · 16/12/2005 21:31

My 2 year old played with my old organisers, he then spent hours lining up his smarties, then he found a box of tampons and lined them up too. He has spent a long time watching snooker and he also watched deal or no deal and countdown - where he repeats every letter carol reads out! - Who says TV isn't educational!!!!

crimbocrazydazy · 16/12/2005 21:34

DS (3) carries DP's spirit level around with him everywhere insisting its his "gun", he has about 4 guns but none of them are played with as much as this.

He also loves Polly Pockets atm

Sugarmag · 17/12/2005 07:52

A stone.

Actually one of the small red chips from our driveway. DS carried it everywhere with him yesterday. Kept him amused for 45 minutes while I shopped for throw cushions, took it to music class, talked to it during lunch, at various points during the day it was a train, a plane and a frog I think.

(BTW crimbocrazydazy - also loves his sister's Polly Pockets!)

bourneville · 17/12/2005 08:01

Absolutely, why do we buy toys!
Baublerock my dd used to LOVE Countdown too, when she was first introduced to letters & numbers - same thing, copying Carol!
We were out all day yesterday so that doesn't count, but recently dd (2.4) learnt to put on a CD by herself, so she has spent a lot of time taking CDs in & out of the stereo, playing them for 30 seconds, taking it out & putting another one on, etc. drives you mad!

She has taken to my Lipsyl recently too.
Her favourite TOY at the moment is her dolly's pushchair.

ISawFrannyandZooeyKissingSanta · 17/12/2005 08:22

We buy toys for ourselves as we get bored with pegs.

Actually, if you want to get all poncy about it, there is a whole school of thought that says young children benefit much more from being allowed to play with natural and everyday household objects, than manufactured and commercial toys.

This website is a very good source of info on heuristic play. Guaranteed to floor smug friends and irritating MILs next time your baby is sucking a peg - "Oh yes, she's very advanced at playing heuristically, you know..."

crimbocrazydazy · 17/12/2005 08:41

Sugarmag your DS sounds like mine, he loves chips like that too Boys are funny though, I think.

DD has made a mouse out of a carboard box and she has been playing with that for the last three days, she even takes it to bed. She never takes her dolls, teddies or anything to bed with her.

santabops · 17/12/2005 09:45

My ds - 2 - spends a large part of his day delivering 'letters' which are complete figments of imagination... My role - occasionally handing him another 'pile'
